Social Networking Options

Social Networking sites are one of the most popular trends for teenagers and young adults these days. They help you stay connected, communicate, and share various types of information with others along with other unexpected uses.
I'm only going to describe the most popular ones, such as Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter along with a little known one, such as Shoutlife. My hope is that I can help those that have not used these sites before know which one(s) to pick according to what will fit their lifestyles. But be forewarned, once you start, there's pretty much no going back!
Myspace
Myspace is great for talking with friends that you already know. Also, you can check out bands and artists. All sorts of videos can also be located. Your profile page can be individualized to extreme proportions. You can put up a unique layout, videos, a music playlist, pictures, blogs, and updates. Also, if you want to make your own page as an artist or band, this is a great place to get discovered! Overall, this is a great place to stay in touch and show your personality, but not always safe for kids or teens.
Facebook is awesome if you want to connect and stay in touch with people you haven't talked to in awhile, such as friends from elementary school, middle school, high school, college, previous jobs, or other long lost friends. They are also designed to communicate to those you see everyday. This social networking site does not allow for personalization as much as Myspace, but you can still put up status updates (what you are doing at the moment or quotes or lyrics). Also, you can click on other's updates to signify that you like it and comment on others posts or updates. There are also a myriad of applications, including games, music, pictures, notes, and many others. In other words, Facebook can keep you busy for a looooong time and can get very addictive. Be prepared for this if you decide this site is for you! :)
Shoutlife
Shoutlife is similar to Myspace, except it is considered to be safer and more positive. It doesn't have suggestive ads and is more kid or teen friendly from a parent's view. It is a Christian based site that allows you to create your own profile and stay in contact with friends. It's also a great way to meet new people. Most of the people are friendly on this site, so check it out!
Twitter is similar to status updates on the other social networking sites. It is basically a very edited or condensed versions of the other ones. In 140 characters or less, one can describe what they are doing or thinking at the moment. Or they can post links to pictures, videos, or sites. Also, I enjoy posting lyrics to my favorite songs or quoting others. This is the perfect site for those that are busy and on the go. They can update their twitter via their cell phone, laptop, or computer in only a few minutes. It's also fun to "follow" others in order to find out what they are doing or thinking. If you believe this one's for you then check it out and start "tweeting"!

I don't get on myspace either, unless I want to find new music or videos :). Yes that's a good idea about your daughter. Yes..I wouldn't keep in touch with people from college if I didn't use facebook!
