Profiting from Social Networking

What is Social Networking and How Can You Profit from it?
Social Networking isn't new, but the Internet has taken social networking to a whole new level. Business people have networked literally since the beginning of business. Networking is an essential skill for most business people, particularly for entrepreneurs. Sales are frequently developed through the relationships we have created with other people. In traditional business, networking is often done through chamber of commerce organizations, trade shows, conferences, associations dedicated to your type of business, BNI (Business Networking International), etc. Networking functions provide the opportunity to expand your contact list, particularly when you create and nurture quality relationships.
But how has the Internet Impacted Social Networking?
The Internet allows you to network and connect with others from the convenience of your own home office and reach far more people in less time, fitting in with your schedule.
In an article by StartupNation on MSN Money, “Beating a Bad Economy – from Home”, they stated:
“New this year was the priority placed on social media by home-based businesses and their audiences. For the first time, the sense of isolation at home has given way to immense connectivity through online networking, We've noticed this trend in the blogosphere, which has been lit up with references and links to the StartupNation Home-Based 100, as well as social sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Digg and StumbleUpon, which have driven immense amounts of traffic to contestants' profiles during the competition. This is testimony to the swelling current of conversation that home-based business owners participate in online and the networking and marketing benefits they gain as a result.”
“Social networking sites like Myspace, Friendster, and Facebook have literally exploded in popularity in just a few short years.” - Mike Fitzpatrick
Why Are Companies Willing to Spend Big Bucks for Websites that Provide Free Membership?
- MySpace sold for $580 million in 2006
- Facebook sold for $4.1 billion in 2007
- Google buys FaceBook for $25 billion 2008
Advertisers will pay a lot of money for repeat visitors who are spending a lot of time on a website and those characteristics can move a website up in ranking quickly. Bottom line is that a site with visitors who repeatedly and consistently return to the website is worth a lot of money.
What Makes Social Networking Sites a Unique Opportunity for Marketing You and Your Business?
- Growing popularity
- Repeat visitors who spend time on the sites
- Targeted audiences searching for people to connect with and attracted to what you have to offer
- Social networking sites increase in ranking quickly
- Google rewards sites with visitors who return and stay on a website for long periods of time
How can Social Networking be Utilized in Marketing Your Business?
- Creates an online presence
- Establishes credibility
- Attracts your niche or target market to you
- Can bring people to you from the comfort of your home office
- Allows you to educate people who wouldn't realize they wanted or needed your services or products
- Gain referrals or can even gain viral referrals
- Helps increase your website ranking
- Income from your referrals – Google ads and more
Important Social Networking Tips
- Create a compelling profile that promotes YOU
- Post content and be involved within the social community
- Don't “spam”, create comments and information of VALUE
- Be selective in what you post comments on and utilize the content you write in multiple areas
- Get ideas for articles from questions on social sites and forums

Thanks Wendy for not letting me miss the genius of this sytem. I almost dismised it because I'm not a sports fan. Just being able to advertise and sell advertising to your local market makes it a great idea. Saving $299 and earning 50% commission isn't bad either!
I highly recommend that everyone listen to the excellent webinar on VIPSportsNet. I know both you and Cammy work diligently to make sure lines of genealogy are followed.
Thanks Sue and Irene for your comments. Irene brought up a good point that we mention on the webinar, but is worth mentioning here too. If you are already a WorksTeam member, check with the WorksTeam leader you are working with to obtain their link to join VSN. Anyone who joins VSN with a WorksTeam member will then have the same founding member status, so others can join on your link and have the $299 fee waved until the Dec. 31st deadline.
Wow, Wendy, thanks for the "heads-up" on this one! And just how DID you arrange for free registration?!? Guess "you da' man" ;-)!! I signed up already - I know lotsa sports fans (lol)...
