The advent of social networking has changed the way we communicate and keep in touch with our friends, and even the way we meet other people whose interests are the same with ours. Before, it will take us a one or two-hour ride to attend a meeting or a conference. Nowadays, however, you and your peers can just log on to a social site, and you can discuss your opinions and come to terms on a particular topic. Finding friends or other people that you have lost contact with has now become easier. All you have to do is enter their names on the search bar of the social site that you are a member of.
Indeed, social networking is a fun thing to do. But, if you are a business person, more especially an online business person, then this new hype on the Web will be more than just about having fun. It is also about it for your business' advantage.

First, create an account with a social site. There are hundreds of social networking sites. Some focus on a general audience and field, examples of which are FaceBook are MySpace. When you become of a member of at least one of these sites, you have the chance to create your profile, invite others to be one of your contacts, and join others' "friend base", just like any other user.

Invite them to become one of your contacts, hence, you are starting to establish a connection with other business professionals and more especially, with potential customers or clients.
These sites also allow you to post bulletins or announcements, so you get to announce the most recent happenings or updates of your business/website, which your contacts and other users get to see. Expect to receive responses from them, for these people are inclined to interact. You may also engage in forums where you can acquire some information relating to the field that you are in. Furthermore, social sites allow you to post links to your website. Thus, you get free promotion for your site. There are designated places for these links, so be sure use this service properly.
So, with some creativity, you can actually turn social networking from being a tool to make and connect with friends to a strong business tool.
