Social responsibility and ethics
Social responsibility and ethics has been an elephant in the room for centuries. Social responsibility has to do with the social conscious of an entity or corporation. It also deals with the citizenship and public spirit of the company. It is a common standard of justice.
As an employee I feel that the department I work for has been uncared for. The organization has failed to make decisions to enhance the welfare of their employees. Allowing certain departments to leave early to make arrangements when a hurricane warning has been issued has enraged me. Are we less important? Where is the social responsibility to us, the sales department?
Social responsibilities to employees extend beyond terms and conditions of the formal contract of employment and give recognition to the workers as a human being. I feel that every department should be treated equally. By allowing everyone to leave at the same time, I feel that the organization would prove my department being just as valuable as any other department. Social responsibilities are very important to an organization in order to create a good image to the company for the company.
Ethics play an important role in social responsibility. The keys issues involved are the health and safety of every employee. Great leadership includes establishing health and safety as a value and affirming that safety is good business. By allowing employees adequate time to prepare for evacuation, one can prepare the home and make necessary plans for lodging, food and evacuate on time. The organization should allow ample time to every employee. It is a responsibility for every organization to offer the employee peace of mind. In return it rewards the organization with long term growth and leadership. This will strengthen the relationships within the organization.
The employees do have a responsibility to voice their concerns. Managers might not be aware of the problem if is not brought to light. Therefore, I feel that the responsibility lies on that of the employee. Offering suggestions to set a policy for the situation should it arise in the future, will offer the employees satisfaction and peace of mind while providing a stronger foundation for the organization.
These responsibilities call for fair treatment of employees and respect for every individual, while being mindful of ways to help their employees’ fulfill their family responsibilities. Creating a better place of employment has rewards for both the organization and the employees.
