Socialist vs Capitalist

It is told that a socialist government is one that take care of the people and owns all things of worth to help the government to  support the people.  This  being the case, then we all have one time lived undered a socialist type of govenment but on a small scale.

Growing up and living at home, we were taken care of by someone who we will call the household  government.  They fed us, clothes us and put a roof over our head.  Now this may not compare to living under a socialist government in a socialist country, but you get the meaning of what is meant by growing up under socialism.  People, mostly politicians are always using the socialism term and how bad it  is in other countries that are governed that way.  They say that capitalism is the best system.

So we grow up under socialism and then we leave home to be governed under capitalism.  Now capitalism is all about letting the people own property, but not really.(you still pay tax on the land, property tax, ground rent etc.)  The government says you are free to make decisions about your government, not. (your government is chosen by those in power, money).  I could go on but there is too much to compare.

The government we live under is  called one thing, but has two different meanings.  A socialist government is a part of the capitalism system in one way or another,(welfare, free clinics, etc.).  If you just looked at the systems of government and how they were designed to work, both have their plus and minus sides to them.

What do you think?  Which system is best and why?

The people have consistently voted for this system.

It has the worst of both system and it doesn't need a label it needs people to vote for a system they want to replace it with.

I believe that people will find their own way if they are not duped or misled by power. The powerful (whether the power is ecomonic or political - and sometimes its difficult to distinguish between these) always seek to maintain their power and in the process disempower others. So I am neither for nor against either capitalism or socialism but definitely for justice and freedom. I think it is possible for there to be justice and freedom in either a capitalist or a socialist context, though I have a suspicion that they might be more likely in a truly democratic socialist society. But who knows? Perhaps neither has ever fully been tried, because the powerful always subvert the system to meet their own ends.

Love and peace

There are pros and cons to the government. Many are needing healthcare and cannot afford it, many need food and services as they have lost there jobs, I am very liberal when it comes to speaking about the government but it reminds me of a pendulum that swings back and forth. :)

The first year the pilgrims were in America they had a new idea.  It was: how about if we all work all year planting, tending and harvesting crops; and at the end of the year we will all simply divide up whatever we grow equally?  So, they did.  They starved to death that year and the whole colony would have become extinct if not for the Indians sharing their food with them—the origin of Thanksgiving. The problem was, most all of them hoped the other guys would do the actual work and they could just do as little as possible to skate by.

The next year they had a new plan.  They divided up the land and told each person: Here is your land.  Whatever you grow is yours to keep for yourself.  That year, they all worked their asses off and grew so much food they had to give it away to the Indians because it was just going to spoil.  Why?  Because each family was motivated by the thought that not only were they only going to have to eat what they produced themselves; but if they grew a surplus, they could trade it for other things they wanted.  None of them went hungry.  Naturally, as Christians, they, as a community, took it upon themselves to provide for widows and orphans—but not for any able bodied who refused to work.

This is human nature.  This is why Capitalism has produced a standard of living far beyond human imaginings.  If there is nothing to gain by working harder and smarter, why do it?
