In San Francisco, a socialized healthcare system may not be too far away. This week, three judges in the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals may defend a court challenge to the healthcare plan. The plan was developed to provide medical health insurance to all of the adult residents of San Francisco. The health plan will be partly funded by fees on businesses. It is estimated that the plan will cost around $200 million. Health insurance is very difficult to obtain for those who can't afford it or have been denied due to preexisting conditions.

A local restaurant association took the new plan took court and claimed that the government could not force employers to pay into health insurance programs enforced by the city. The initial challenge won early in the court case. But the fight will continue in the court of appeals. Universal health insurance has become a huge topic and is going to play a huge role in the 2008 presidential elections. Many left-wingers believe socialized healthcare is the answer to our nation's healthcare crisis. The San Francisco universal healthcare plan will surely play a role in Schwarzenegger's healthcare reform if the case reaches a conclusion anytime soon.
