If you want to build a solar power house, no doubt you will want the best power for a reasonable price. Although at one time it was expensive to construct solar power homes, today with new technology it is becoming cost effective and beneficial. A great new addition to the house solar panels market has been the thin film solar panels, making it an easy thing to get solar energy that is cost effective.

These new thin film solar panels now being used in solar power for home, are actually stacks of many layers that are almost paper thin. This type of technology can be seen in solar powered calculators and the thin film used there. Thin panels aren't baked the way traditional panels are, the solar panel films are made on unique rolling machines much like a printing press.

Using these new thin flexible solar cells has many pros for a solar power house. They are much lighter and they work well on a variety of surfaces. They are pleasing to the eye, and there are no more thick and heavy panels on the roof-top to detract from your home. One of the main benefits is that these flexible solar panel technologies are economical and provide great efficiency. The installation of these thin-film solar panels for conversion to a solar power house is definitely a cost effective idea.

Although the science behind the thin film panels is essentially the same, there are some differences in in the way the panels are manufactured. Silicon is used in the layers of wafer solar cells, but for the thin film cells, either copper indium gallium diselenide or cadmium telluride is placed between each thin layer. New thin film solar panels are also not made in the same way. These panels are made on huge presses similar to printing presses using aluminum foil, a process that is quite cheap.

Thin film solar panels designed for solar power homes have been highlighted on CNN and even named the "Invention of the Year" by Time Magazine. The advantages of thin film panels definitely make them one of the revolutionary inventions to be given this title. Add to that the fact that solar power is now just as cheap as other forms of energy, and these flexible solar panels are definitely a technological leap forward that will revolutionize solar energy as we know it.
