Many people enjoy decorating their property with cascading waterfall landscapes, burbling fountains, and rippling ponds. After a fussy work day, these landscapes create a natural escape, a peaceful haven that allow homeowners to find that tranquil place away from the muddle of busy life. When one determines to bestow beautiful flowing water to their property, usually their thoughts are so concentrated on the position and the contractor to place it there that they forget to ponder the type of pump that will power their new magnificent landscaping.

You can save wads of cash while lessening your impact on the environment by installing a solar powered pump. The average American will spend $8 - $12 a year just powering their regular old pond pumps. As a more sophisticated option, solar pumps generate their own electricity at no cost to you, and cleanly! The electric plants today are still too often using coal which leaves massive carbon footprints on the Earth. The sun's energy comes for free, so why hassle with expensive grid power? The solar phenomenon takes the burden off your pocket, and your ecologically aware soul!

Solar pond pumps can be applied in a variety of ways. Some ideas are with waterfalls, fountains, streams, ponds, reflecting pools, and water gardens. I've personally used submersible fountain pumps for my own waterscapes, but last week I found an interesting external model on display at the market. It was shaped and colored to disguise itself as a lillypad. Probably far from fooling anyone, but certainly more discreet than the common pump.

I was impressed!

You will find solar pumps in a variety of sizes. They're ready to fit anything, from little birdbath fountains to the most large-scale waterfall imaginable. So when building a scale model of Old Faithful in your backyard or placing a bird bath on your deck there's a solar powered pump for that.

Thankfully solar panels has evolved from the delicate, small experiments in research laboratories into a robust, surefire source of power. In this application, most solar panels are built to withstand strong wind, rain, hail, and large variations in seasonal temps. Never again will solar power be believed to be high upkeep.

Great links. Given the nature of such a natural pond i am very fond of the idea of keeping everything as green as possible. Ive been looking into getting some solar powered lights and fountains for my pond to give the whole thing a new atmosphere. Thanks for all the great information.
