Would you like to use lighting all month and not pay for it at all? Who wouldn’t? Solar lighting can make this possible. As the name suggests, solar lighting is a concept in which energy is generated from the sunlight. The Sun does not belong to anybody on the earth and hence no electricity board can ever charge you for using the energy of the Sun.

However, it does not mean that you just open the doors and windows of the house, let the sunlight in and expect the television set to start running all by itself. Solar lighting is a step by step method. It is all about absorbing the sunlight and converting it into energy. Solar panels can help you absorb the sunlight - this makes it especially useful for things like solar powered landscape lighting. Unfortunately, solar panels are man made and hence they do belong to someone or the other and you would have to shell out money to buy and install them.

Solar Lights

If you look at the global situation as of now, you would realize that environment is not in a very good shape at all and is definitely becoming a very major cause for concern all over the world. One of the main reasons for all the mess in our ecosystem is burning of fossil fuels. Man is greedy as we all know. We have thrown this world into deep waters of technology and now getting out of this water is looking seemingly difficult. The energy consumption around the world has increased dramatically in the past couple of decades. Earth needs respite from pollution and industrialization. A little attention towards solar lights can do Mother Earth a world of good.

The concept of solar lighting is already gaining a lot of importance in the west and also in some parts of Asia. If we think carefully then we might even come to a conclusion that solar lighting would be the only way of generating electricity in the coming years because all the other sources of electricity need fossil fuels which are fast depleting and will be extinct sooner or later. So, if solar outdoor lighting is what we are going to be dependent on after a few decades, then why not use it from this very moment?

Many households in the United States have already started to use solar powered garden lights. In fact, the main use of solar powered lights is for either outdoor purpose or for lighting the bathroom. The reason not many of them can afford to use solar energy to light the entire house is because of the solar panels which are relatively a little expensive. But if one looks at it with a view of one time investment then buying a solar panel is not a bad idea at all.

Solar Powered Lights

Let’s say that a family of six owns a house in a city of United States. The house is quite big, has a nice garden and also a small open space outside. Imagine the home completely lit in the night. You would have to put a good number of bulbs or CFLs both inside and outside the home. Now, let’s say that the family lives in the house for 50 years. You would have to pay for the electricity every month for as long as 50 years which means that you would pay for 600 months. Now, add the amount of electricity bill that you spent for these 600 months and compare it with the cost of a solar lighting panel. You can actually end up saving a lot of money if you are ready for the one time investment.

Another major advantage of solar lighting is that you would never experience a power cut because the Sun is not man made and hence it never stops functioning. Keep in mind we are talking about the day time. The solar panel can absorb a lot of energy in those 812 hours of day light. This energy is more than enough for people to use up during nights and. The next morning, as usual, the panels go back to work absorbing energy from the sun.

You must have definitely put up those traditional lights in your home, both indoors and outdoors. You also must have definitely shelled out a lot of money for the wires and the cable work. Well, you don’t have to do this when it comes to solar lighting as it does not require any cable and wiring work.

Solar Lighting is undoubtedly the best way of generating electricity. The day is not far when all man-made resources providing electricity would come to a halt due to over abuse. The earth would be swamped in darkness. However, we still have Sun as our savior. So why don’t you give it a good long thought? Reach out for the power of the sun to light up your homes.
