Millions of people across the world suffer from poor self-esteem. Low self-esteem haunts people every single day. Often times, poor self-esteem begins during childhood and continuously plummets throughout adulthood. Here are some signs of poor self-esteem:
1. You are a perfectionist. Do you feel like everything must be perfect to be "right"? Perfectionists often feel like they're a horrible person if everything isn't just so-so. This is a huge sign of poor self-esteem. And no matter how hard you try to do everything perfectly, nothing in life is perfect.
2. You can't take a genuine compliment. Do you find it difficult to accept compliments? People with poor self-esteem tend to say things like, "Not me," when paid a compliment.
3. You make decisions based on the guilt factor. Do you often say, "Yes" when you'd rather say, "No"? Do you feel horribly guilty when you do work up your nerve to say "no"? Poor self-esteem hangs guilt like a noose around your neck. The majority of your decisions are based on the fact that you don't want to feel guilty for saying no.
4. Your feelings are fragile. Do you walk around wearing your feelings on your shoulder like a feather? People with poor self-esteem tend to get their feelings hurt over little things, or things that aren't even necessarily directed towards them.
5. You feel frustrated and angry. Do you feel sometimes like you're walking around with a pot of anger boiling inside yourself? Poor self-esteem causes many to take on much more than they should. Rather than vent, this is bottled up inside, which allows you to beat up on yourself (mentally) more.
6. You bite off more than you can chew. People with poor self-esteem often make big plans, then fail to follow through. The biggest reason this happens is because they lack the self-confidence they need to push themselves to the next level.
Poor self-esteem can cause a myriad of negative effects on your life. It can lead to depression, anxiety, anger, disappointment, frustration, and more. Any number of incidents throughout a person's life can contribute to poor self-esteem. From mental or physical abuse to a bad childhood, poor self-esteem is a mental issue.
If you are dealing with poor self-esteem and low self-confidence, know this-YOU ARE NOT ALONE. There are thousands upon tens of thousands of people who are dealing with poor self-esteem, too. So what will you do about it?
