Tuna is one of the most common foods you find in most every pantry in America, come to think of it I have about nine cans of tuna in my pantry right now. I think the reason is that canned tuna is such a good food to eat and there are tons of really good easy tuna recipes. I can think of a ton of items in my fridge that would go good with fresh tuna such as eggs, Celery, Cucumber, Carrots, of course Mayo, mustard and lemon pepper. Tuna is one of those foods that you can just trough together a bunch of stuff and have a great little meal or snack. Tuna is good with crackers, bread, salad and even plain, right out of the can.

Tuna & Omega 3's

Tuna is also a very healthy snack or meal. Tuna is full of what is called Omega 3 fatty acids, I know the name doesn't sound very pretty but Omega 3 found in Tuna acts to lower the levels of cholesterol it also helps protect the heart and also helps prevent strokes. Many doctors suggest Omega 3 for people with high cholesterol. Studies suggest that Omega 3 found in such food as Tuna help protect against cancers, asthma, depression and arthritis. Remember that old saying "an apple a day" well it should have been about a Tuna sandwich. One thing is for sure, allot of easy tuna recipes generally have a ton of Mayo and other unhealthy ingredients in them. Do to the saturated fat and cholesterol try to stay away from using to much Mayo on your Tuna sandwiches and snacks. An easy Tuna recipe I use is to take my tuna add a couple of diced eggs a little lemon pepper a pinch of salt, a squeeze of lemon add some diced Celery and cucumber mix it all up, through it on a slice or two of your favorite bread or use it for a dip with some crackers. There are tons more easy Tuna recipes available you can make tuna sandwiches, casseroles, tuna burgers, tuna salads and much more. I would like to share a couple of easy tuna recipes that I have found and tryed in the last few weeks. These are easy to make and very tasty.

Here Are Some Easy Tuna Recipes

Sherry's light Swiss tuna melt.

ingredients are

  • 1 6 oz can water-packed, light tuna,drained,flaked
  • 3/4 cup reduced-fat, shredded swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup light sour cream
  • 1/2 cup reduced-fat mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup onion,chopped
  • 1/4 cup celery,chopped
  • 8 slices lo-fat wheat bread
  • 3 tbsp "I can't believe it's not butter", softened

In a medium sized bowl, just combine first 6 ingredients, mix well. Spread over four slices of bread. Top w/ remaining bread. Butter the outsides of the sandwiches. In a lg skillet, over med heat, grill sandwiches for 4-5 min or until lightly browned.

I liked this one because she added sour cream to her recipe, it was kinda different and  gave it a nice flavor. I guess if you did not like sour cream like my wife you could leave it out and still have a good tuna melt. The second one is

This open faced sandwich is a scrumptious treat for the eyes & for your taste buds!

I am sure you will enjoy these tuna recipes, they are very good and are made with plain old canned tuna so they are very inexpensive. I made both of them under 30 minutes. I would suggest looking up tuna and other fish such as Solomon they are good substitutes for red meat and have many health benefits.
