Husband's Cooking

Somethin's In The Oven -

I'm Eatin' Good Tonight

You know as I look back

over the last many years,

I've noticed that most of my

life has centered around

the family table. With foster

kids, friends of kids, and

a stray or two...it could be

pretty hectic. We craved peace.

Now, our family table has shrunk to the daily size of 2 and the occasional dropped in grown kid. It has seemed lonely.

Fridays are settling into a routine of my husband planning and cooking the meal; the day is spattered with a question or two for me as he cooks.

Which spice? Ginger for chicken or beef? To Curry or Not to Curry, that is the question. Oh, why not curry, it's just us.

I'm likin' it. Tonight, we eat slow-cooked boneless pork ribs, with salt, pepper, pepper and more pepper; a dash of ginger, a splatter of cardamom, and pepper on the side (lol). Steamed potaotes in a skillet with olive oil, red pepper flakes (I'll cry later) salt, more pepper and onions. Lid on.

I hear okra hit the skillet with a light dusting of corn meal. ssssszzzt.

I'm watching the news, sippin' iced tea, petting the aging cat. She sniffs the air in distaste. What, no fish? No tuna? What's a cat to do??

My mouth waters as I smell biscuits and see the honey butter being stirred.

I'm beginning to feel guilty, just sitting here. I'll get over it. Should I set the table? Should I drink more green tea with lemon and add a few ice cubes? Naaa, I hate to move. I smile secretly, if I sit here and sigh loudly, he'll probably come check on me... yep. It worked. "Aww honey, my headache's better, thanks for refreshing my glass of tea." wink wink.

He brings my plate with my pork rib, my softened lightly browned potatoes, my okra and a few slices of tomatoes. Biscuits and a napkin...I just might keep this man.

Dinner on Friday night, a little world news - just a little, a bit of hubbing, a scroll through the movie channels and a good book just in case --- the dishes can wait til tomoro...all is quiet and the stomach is full.

He just bought himself another year, but then, I'm easy.

Now where's the remote

Today, Tomorrow

There are recipes for dinner, but then there are recipes for life. What a beautiful hub, marisue. I'm so happy you will keep him for another year. Is he for rent? :)

I used to give him away but they kept bringin' him back. so we did try the renting...it goes much better because they can time it out...the price is right and some days....he's FREE. LOL

Thanks for reading and commenting....you are a bright spot in the day. Marisue
