The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS is the latest golf GPS from Sonostar, featuring patented full color 3D display of entire hole layouts. The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS has set a new standard in usability and attractiveness, challenging golf GPS manufacturers worldwide to rise to the challenge.
What Is The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS?
A golf GPS (global positioning system) contacts satellites to determine its exact postion, and then calculates the distance from its current position to any pre-set target postion. With the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS, you can download (or enter manually) the target positions on any golf course - not just the greens, but also hazards and lay up points - and then while you are playing, your Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS will show you the distances without you having to hunt for markers, pace off distances or estimate and hope.
The one drawback to a GPS system is that it does require access to satellites in order to function. Buildings, thick woods, and summer storms can interfere with satellite signals, making your Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS less accurate, or even preventing it from locating you at all.
What's Special About The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS?
The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS has all the features one would expect in a golf GPS - internal antenna and satellite receiver, memory for course data, and a clear display. Where the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS starts to pull ahead of the pack is in the quality of these standard features, and in the additional features which are unique to the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS.  Â
The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS Patented Course Layout Display
The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS provides golfers with precise distance information from any point on the course. What's more the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS features a revolutionary new user interface, which actually shows YOUR position on the golf course in real time! As you move to the next stroke location, your position is shown on the scrren of your Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS, and the distances to each critical target are continually updated.
The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS Green View
The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS displays the distance to the green from any point on the course, even without a clear line of sight, helping you to minimize poor shot selections. The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS can also reveal surprising ways to cut shots from your average round.
We have one hole that is a severe dog-leg right par five. The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS revealed that the front edge of the green is only 327 yards from the box (over the woods) when the hole plays 490 around the dog-leg. Since I started using the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS I have figured out the best place to lay-up so that I can cut part of the wooded corner and easily reach the green in two ... just an example of interesting stuff you can find using the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS.
Track Your Game With The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS
The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS can record locations for each shot right on the screen, and can automatically trace waypoints during the round. The information can be stored in your Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS so you can review the round and each shot at a later date.
This is very handy if you have a coach who doesn't watch you play - the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS reveals the truth, whereas your fallible human memory may perhaps gloss over a thing or two ...
Learn Your Driving Distances With The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS
The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS allows you to mark points during a game. Simply mark the position of your ball before you drive, then walk to the ball to learn how long your drive was. With the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS, you can develop an accurate understanding of how far you hit the ball using each of your clubs.Â

Competitors To The Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS
No review would be complete without mention of the competing products. Golf GPS units are available from SkyCaddie, GolfLogix, and SureShot, among others.
A major advantage of the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS is that there are no ongoing fees required to use it. SkyCaddie and GolfLogix both charge annual fees for access to course data, while the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS comes with up to five courses as free downloads, and then a once-only fee to access the rest of the courses in the database - currently around 18,000 and growing every day.
The SkyCaddie SG5 is the nearest competitor to the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS. It is slightly more expensive than the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS, and is similar - same sized color screen, only slightly larger and heavier, waterproof like the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS, and the battery lasts almost as long - 14 hours as against 15 hours. Memory is a key distinguishing feature between the SkyCaddie SG5 Golf GPS and the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS. The SkyCaddie SG5 Golf GPS holds 10 courses in memory, while the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS holds 30.
Â
Another significant difference between the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS and the SkyCaddie SG5 Golf GPS is the number of targets per hole. The SkyCaddie SG5 Golf GPS stores targets for the front, centre and back of the green only, whereas the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS stores up to 15 targets per hole. This allows the Sonocaddie V300 Golf GPS to remember the positions of hazards, lay up points, and other points of interest, as well as several points on and around the green.
