81Sonsona-Hernandez Fight Ended in a Draw
THESE are the results of the Sonsona versus Hernandez bout and other matches that took place Saturday night at the scheduled boxing ring. Marvin "Marvelous" Sonsona failed to register the correct weight at the scales during the weigh-in Saturday morning. He tipped the scales at 117.6 lbs. which is above 115 lbs. the weight limit. So he was stripped of his title as WBO Junior Bantamweight Champion. In the ensuing fight that lasted twelve (12) rounds, the match ended in a tie. Sonsona met a tough Mexican boxer in the person of Alejandro "Payasito" Hernandez. The scores were: 115-113, 113-115, 114-114. The title was left vacant.

Updates on Sonsona
PER report of Ronnie Nathanielsz, WBO Superflyweight Champion "Marvelous" Marvin Sonsona (14 wins, 0 loss, 12 knockouts) will continue training under Nonito Donaire Sr. in Cebu City beginning Monday (October 19). Promoter Sammy Gello-ani's plan to have Sonsona trained in Baguio City didn't materialize because of typhoons that have caused landslides which isolated the summer capital and forced Sonsona to train in Manila. But Gello-ani and Donaire amended the plan saying there were too many distractions in Manila so they decided to transfer Sonsona's training site to Talisay, Cebu. Donaire, Sr. disclosed Sonsona had already left Manila for Talisay, Cebu via Gen. Santos City to arrive in Cebu Monday.. He would give assessment of Sonsona's condiktion after 1 or 2 days of training. Donaire further stated that Team Sonsona including trainer Jun Agrabio will depart for San Francisco November 8 and Sonsona will have to continue training at his nephew's kennel Boxing Gym in San Leandro, California.

THE youthful Filipino boxer, MERVIN "Marvelous" SONSONA, 19, who was crowned WBO Superflyweight Champion last Sept. 4 after dethroning JOSE "Carita" Lopez of Puerto Rico will defend his title against ALEJANDRO "Payasito" Hernandez, 23, of Mexico in a 12-round boxing bout on November 21 in the same boxing arena in Casino Rama in Ontario where he won his WBO title
Sonsona- who's Manny Pacquiao's townmate has won all 14 professional fights with a dozen knockouts and zero draw. As of yet- God forbids. he has not suffered any defeat. Boxing aficionados expect the Pinoy boxer to easily outclass the Mexican challenger. They expect the untiring Sonsona to dominate in the early rounds by unleashing his fury with his right - left- right combos.
Hernandez with his 22 - 7 (11 ko's ) isn't considered a serious threat to Sonsona. But Team Sonsona and Sonsona himself aren't taking things for granted. They knew fully well that the Mexican challenger is as tall as the champion. So the Filipino champion will not throw caution to the winds. He knew the saying that overconfidence kills a man. So he'll do his utmost to make every punch counts. He'll try to score or land more convincing blows than Hernandez. Having the heart and courage of a Filipino, Marvin "Marvelous" Sonsona will try to impress the judges and boxing fans that he's a worthy champion.by outpointing the Payasito. The champion knew that this can easily be done by delivering more valid and solid blows via his speed and alertness. He has come to internalize the fact that offense is the best defense. In boxing as a science, it is not how good a boxer is in dodging or parrying blows that counts- it is how he outwits or outbox his opponents.
Eight of Sonsona's last 9 fights were held in Cebu . Two of his victims were world class Thai boxers - Liempech Sor Veerapol and Wandee Singwancha. This will be his 2nd trip outside of the Philippines. I honestly pray for God's help to grant him victory.
"The Little Clown" Hernandez of Iztapatopa, Distrito Federal, Mexico lost his recent fight on points to Wilbert Vicab for the NABF Flyweight Title in Ciudad Nezahulcoyoti, Mexico last Sept. 11. He likewise lost his first professional fight by split decision to Jeremias Segovia on April 6, 2002 in Tabasco, Mexico. His lucky day came on February 16, 2007 when he won the WBO Latino Flyweight Championship with a 12-round decision against Jonathan Perez.
NOTE: Can anybody lend me a picture or two of Mexican boxer Alejandro "Payasito" Hernandez? If there's a picture(s) of him in the internet, kindly send me the link through the Comments Portion at the end of this hub. We wish to include him in this hub. Thank you.

I failed to find any picture of Alejandro "Payasito" Hernandez, the Mexican challenger to the November 21 WBO Boxing Crown title fight against the Filipino Champion Marvin "Marvelous" Sonsona. If you have one, please let me borrow. Or- if you know of any webpage where his picture in the boxing stance is, kindly provide me the link. We will include him in this hub. Thank you.
