Yes, Adrian's comments are very valid.
I have this camcorder and I am very pleased with its' performance. However linking to my PC has been an ongoing problem. I purchased a firewire card and a 6 pin to 4 pin cable. Job done I thought! Running Vista the connection seems intermittent. One minute it's fine then nothing.
The problem appears to be with the firewire connection on the camera. Moving this connection seems to cure the problem. I am going to contact Sony and see if this is an inherent fault.
I will let you know!
Hello, I know earlier Adrian said that there were no firewire or USB cables, has there been any developement on that because i really need to get film from my tapes to a mac for editing so either a firewire or a usb cable would be great.
A reply would be much appreciated :)
Further to my comment regarding intermittent firewire connection. I sent the camera back to Sony and they repaired it under Warranty. However it was sent back with a letter saying if it happened again they would not repair it again - thanks Sony. Oh I will add that I had a futher problem with the lens cover. Even with the cover open the system thought it was closed. Again it was repaired under Warranty. I can't say I am too happy with this camera.

My god how old/out of date/inaccurate is this information?
i) It comes with no software or USB/Firewire cable at all.
ii) It only works with tapes, where did you get the info about disks from?
iii) I have read the manual and experimented with mine and am not aware that you can take stills with it.
iv) Its not got Pict Bridge
v) The battery supplied is only one that lasts max of 90 minutes.
vi) As I said earlier, no application software or even device drivers supplied
Whilst its a neat, nice little camera, what the hells the point of having a digital camcorder which isnt fitted with a USB port - by all accounts you need a laptop/PC with a firewire port/card, then you need to purchase a 6 pin to 4 pin firewire cable from cablesandmore.co.uk and use third part software such as Roxio apps, Ulead video studio, etc...
It seems pointless going "digital", it does little more than my analogue one, can only copy to VHS or DVDRW etc.
mmm. do i purchase extras or return it having only bought it yesterday?
