Sony Ericsson G900 reviews – ordinary yet a smartphone
64
G900 is a new baby of Sony Ericsson that was announced earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress. It is built on the symbian UIQ platform. The peculiar thing about this phone is that it is the most ordinarily designed smartphones so far. There’s no QWERTY keyboard or the Jog Dial on the Sony Ericsson G900. My colleague even mistook it for a K530i,when I showed it to him.
AppearanceG900 bears lot of similarities in looks with G700. Rather it’s almost same except for the silver metallic strip running along its edges. But Despite its simple looks, the G900 is a full-fledged smartphone. The keypad is the touch-screen LCD, which is quite responsive, and with set of buttons for messaging and notes.
Camera
The G900 comes with a higher resolution 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus along with WiFi connectivity. An extraordinary feature is the touch focus function which allows a user to adjust focus of an image by touching that area onscreen. This is really an outstanding camera so far.
Functionality
Although the phone comes with a stylus, but you won’t be needing it much because of touch-screen LCD keypad. The G900 has a slot for a memory card. There’s a secondary built-in camera located just above the screen, which is used for video calls (G900 is a UMTS phone).
Keyboard
The buttons are separate for notes and messages on the keyboard; you will also find “back” and “C” keys. Below them is the phone keypad. Although, keys are pretty small and close to each other but, they’re very convenient and easy to use because of the elevation. The navigational wheel protrudes slightly from the keyboard and can be used for controlling almost all functions of the phone without having to resort to using the touchscreen.
Audio quality
The sound quality is on lines of Sony Ericsson W960i. The G900 also has Multimedia menu – if you try to open music file from any other menu, the phone will start up the universal player rather than its dedicated music player. There are no limits on the bit rate of mp3-files, and you can also upload VBR-tracks. It exibits the progressive fast forward feature and semi-transparent controls to support album art and playlist. The “Sleep” feature is the latest one which automatically turns off if you leave the phone playing music for the next 30 minutes.
Performance
Compared to the Sony Ericsson P1i, the newcomer’s interface is definitely speedier. We prefer to attribute this improvement to optimization of its software and multi-tasking as we couldn’t figure out any other reason.
In nut shell
· The G900’s ring tones are pretty loud Despite having only one loudspeaker onboard, making it very hard to miss a call.
· G900 is exclusively for those who can’t do without wifi.
- It is sort of a transition between feature phones and smartphones
- It is a robustly build handset with tight-fitting parts.
