Sound Sleep Background

From birth we all have certain abilities that are preprogrammed into our bodies. Among those abilities is sleep. Sound sleep may not be the norm for infants, but we do have the ability of sleep from birth.

Sleep is typically an ability that does not take much effort. Just close your eyes, relax, and think happy thoughts. This may sound nice, but for many, this is simply not the case. Anyone that thinks that you just have to close your eyes and you’ll go to sleep has a real misconception going on in their head.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, approximately 60 million people suffer from insomnia. The inability to sleep affects approximately 40 percent of women and 30 percent of men.

Many people don’t realize that there are sleep clinics all over the country meant to help those who are afflicted. Sleep is meant to revive us and get us ready for the next day. When people are deprived of sleep, the effects can be destructive. Famous author, F. Scott Fitzgerald once wrote, “The worst thing in the world is to try to sleep and not to.”

There is hope, however, in overcoming insomnia. It’s not easy, but it can be done, even without the help of a professional sleep clinic.

Yes, sleep is "natural' - but we all seem to develop habits that make it difficult.

My hub about Insomnia and Feng Shui talks about how to set up your bedroom to get rid of distractions.
