Carbohydrates with higher glycemic index are called “bad carbohydrates”. Scientists have found that “bad carbohydrates” produce resistive syndrome for insulin; a hormone that burns the carbohydrates, in our body. These unprocessed carbohydrates do not give us any energy but increase the sugar level in our blood. Besides bad carbohydrates keep us hungry all the time that make us to eat more and more. So to live healthy and fit we should avoid it as much as we can.
The South Beach Diet is a diet that keeps us away from the bad carbohydrates without reducing our daily meals and changing our taste. Dr. Arthur Agatston, a famous cardiologist in Miami, is the founder of this method. Body will start burning fat for energy when there is a lack of carbohydrates, which is actually the main source, in our body. This is the basic idea of the south beach diet. One big plus point of this diet is that it won’t keep you hungry. You can eat as long as your stomach is not satisfied. But the condition is that you can’t touch those foods that contain carbohydrates.
This diet consists of three phases. First phase is called the strict phase. Any kind of carbohydrates are strictly prohibited in this phase for two weeks. But foods that contain proteins such as fish, meat, eggs, cheese and nuts can be eaten as much as your wish. In the second phase that starts from third week you can eat those foods that contain a little amount of carbohydrates such as fruits and grains. This phase lasts until you gain a desired level of low weight. The third phase is the maintaining phase and a lifetime process. This is the phase where you have to keep up your balanced diet henceforward. So try this diet and live healthy ever after.
