Soy Candles Support Farmers Not Big Oil
58With our dependence on foreign oil in the forefront of everyone’s mind these days, I wonder if you know that ordinary candles are made from petroleum.
It’s also interesting to note that in the United States alone, candles are over a $2 Billion industry and growing. Candles are burned in at least 80% of all homes in the USA. That’s a lot of candles!
Soy candles on the other hand are made from soy beans.
Yep, the same thing in your cereal bars. In fact the soybean (actually a legume related to clover, peas and alfalfa) is so versatile it’s often called the miracle crop.
A 60 pound bushel of soybeans will produce about 11 pounds of oil. Imagine all the farmers that could be kept busy if we all switched to burning vegetable based or soy candles.
In addition to supporting our farmers, by burning vegetable based candles you’ll be doing a good thing for yourself and your family as well because veggie and soy candles…

- Are cleaner burning. That means they’ll protect your indoor air quality. You won't have to worry about sooty residue on your ceilings and furnishings or in your lungs.
- Are more economical because they burn up to 50% longer than ordinary scented candles. All natural veggie wax burns cooler, and therefore slower, than traditional candles. This makes them last longer. And as an added bonus my heavily scented gourmet candles liquefy completely when they burn so there’s never any wasted wax left stuck to the side of the jar. Further stretching your dollar.
- Are Non-Toxic and environmentally friendly. Since they are an all natural vegetable wax candle, they produce no harmful carcinogens, which keeps the air healthy for you and your family
- Clean up with hot soapy water if you have an accident and spill some wax. This also means that your candle holders will come clean in the dishwasher.
So why don’t you do yourself and your family a favor and give heavily scented gourmet candles a try. You’ll save money, clean up your indoor air quality and make a soy farmer happy ;)
Switching to eco friendly vegetable blend or soy candles may seem like a little thing but it’s the little things that really add up. Buying soy candles is one more thing the average person can do to support farmers and reduce our consumption of foreign oil.

You won't be disapointed Becky. I know some people who are only occasional candle burners wonder what all the fuss is about.
But for candle addicts like me and my friends soot and other stuff released into the air by all the constantly burning candles is a real concern. Once I learned what I was pumping out into the air of my home I was horrified and made the change on the spot and never looked back.
Ah see now you're talking about farmin (I live on a farm) and i love soy candles they are better all the way around, yay, no more supporting big oil.
Hi shelly interresting soy candles I wonder if I can get them in Australia

After all I've heard, and experienced, about soy candles, I do not plan to purhcase wax candles again, other than to have them sit there and look good; not to burn. I agree that soy candles are what we should be using, for all the reasons you've listed.
Thanks, Becky Joubert
