The Indian Government has urged the car manufacturers to concentrate on making special car for physically challenged people. This is a humble step taken by the Government of India. Moreover, the Government has been providing excise duty concessions on cars meant for the physically impaired people.

The following discusses cars that are available in the Indian car market for the physically challenged people and can be upgraded according to the demand of these special people.

India’s number car maker Maruti Suzuki provides mobility to the physically challenged people. Its models the Maruti Suzuki Esteem, the Maruti Omni and the Versa can be customised to suit the disability of the person. The Esteem can be fixed with a hand operated brake and accelerator as well as a vacuum assisted hand operated clutch to suit the demand for a person to drive with both limb disabilities. The Maruti Suzuki Versa can be decked with a portable ramp suitable for wheelchair user. This car is a good choice for persons with either limb disability or both limb disabilities. The Omni or the Maruti Van can also be improved with a hand operated brake and accelerator for persons to drive with a right limb disability.  These three cars from Maruti Suzuki have the switches of head lights and parking lights as well as the horn on the switch console fixed on the brake lever.

Tata Motors also provides cars for persons with right limb disabilities. The Tata Indigo can be reworked with a hand operated brake and accelerator. A switch console is altered to make use of the lights and the horn. The controls of this sedan are dual in nature and do not effect the normal controls.

The Scorpio Diesel with Manual Transmission can be fitted with a hand operated brake accelerator and clutch. This SUV is suitable for persons with one or both limb disability. The switch console can be upgraded to operate the electricals and the horn. The steering knob can also be adjusted for easy steering.                

The Hyundai Santro can be made suitable for a person with a right limb disability. This hatchback can be fitted with a hand operated brake and accelerator. The lights and the horn can be operated by the switch console fixed on the brake lever.

The Honda City is the right choice for persons with either limb disability or both limb disabilities. The car can be altered with a hand operated brake and an accelerator. Access to the lighting appliances and the horn are fitted on a switch console which is fixed onto the brake lever.

Toyota offers the Innova and the Corolla for persons with physical disability. The Innova can be redone with a hand operated brake and accelerator making it suitable for persons with a right limb disability. A switch console is fitted for easy operation of all electrical appliances and the controls are dual in nature and do not affect the normal controls of the car. The Corolla can be reorganized with a hand operated brake and accelerator. A switch console is also fitted to make use of the electrical and the horn. Moreover, the hand controls in this modified car are dual in nature and do not interfere with the normal foot controls.
