I think we all struggle to find that "perfect" gift for Mother's Day. Trying to find that special and unique gift that touches the heart and warms the soul just isn't easy.

Perhaps you can search to replace something that was lost. Search for that rare book from the author she enjoys the most. A figurine of something she loves. For instance, my mother loves clowns figurines. Maybe you have some old photos and/or video you could put together. You can search to get her tickets to a performer she enjoys. You could find that perfect piece of jewelry she would cherish.

Unfortunately, finding these truly one of a kind gifts aren't easy and certainly cannot be done every Mother's Day. So what can you do ? How can a "typical" gift be made special ? As with most things, content and presentation has a lot to do with creating a memorable experience.

So how do you select a traditional gift and make it special ? That isn't hard. Simply choose a gift that she'll appreciate. Flowers, floral arrangements, chocolates, candies, wine, plants, are always a great gift. If you can, in addition to that, follow the gifts up with a day spent with your mom. You could take a walk, you could take her to a movie, out to lunch or dinner, take her to a craft shop and spend time with her making crafts, or simply spend that day with her talking. I can hear you now, "I live 3000 miles away !!!" No sweat, call her and spend some time on the phone or better yet if she has Skype, do the call that way so you and her can see each other. Put together a video of you and the family wishing her something a very happy Mother's Day and put it up on You Tube or another video sharing site. After her phone call, have her check her email and there you would have left the link to your family's video for her.

Now to truly add the special touch, you need to find a poem that expresses your feelings toward your mother. Okay I know not many of us are poets. Certainly not a gene I was given at birth. Not many of us have a way with words like Maya Angelou. "So now what ?" you're asking yourself. Unfortunately poets usually describe the way we feel in a superior way than we ever could. Combining a traditional gift coupled with a special poem and/or a day with your mom or a special video or a phone call can turn a regular gift into something she'll remember for years to come.

Mothers Day Flowers not only are a tradition, but is a living gift.  They represent life and the love for that life.  The smell of fresh cut flowers is a wonderful aroma especially for that special mother on her special day. Fresh  flowers on her special day of recognition is a wonderful way of saying how much you love her.  However, one size doesn't fit all.

Spend some time and try to find that perfect bouquet or that special flower she will enjoy.  If you're not sure, red roses are always a good choice.  Pink roses are wonderful as well, or a combination of flowers and different colored roses may be just what the doctor ordered.
