my daughters cat died. she fed her special kitty dry cat food. the vet bills were several hundred dollars and the vet wanted several hundred more to run more tests before the cat died. the symtoms were the same as identified with this poisoning. if anyone else has lost a cat while feeding special kitty dry cat food please email me at jackrenick@verizon.net thanks

Jamie, I've heard several people tell me that a rep from the insurance company contacts them, then mails out a packet to fill out. Most peple report a long delay between events.

Ive been feeding my cat the dried food and recently shes started throwing up about every half hour. Shes always been a healthy cat so Im wondering if the food has something to do with it. :(
We lost one of our cats yesterday. We have another cat and both have always eaten Special Kitty dry food. We did not hear of a recall on the dry food. Our other cat is larger and seems to be stronger but is showing signs of distress. The vet said our cat was in kidney failure. This whole situation should be delt with by the authorities, and treated as a crime. The pet food industry is huge and we deserve more than an appology. My daughters are devistated by the loss of "Misty"...we all are. How do you explain this to a 4 and 7 year old?
If your pet is show any symptoms, don't wait...get to the vet. This is serious busines and doesn't "just pass".

OUR CAT HAD BEEN EATING SPECIAL KITTY DRY FOOD AND BEGAN THROWING UP, HE BECAME UNCONSCIOUS . WE TOOK HIM TO THE VET AND THEY SAID HIS BODY TEMPERATURE WAS LOW AND HIS KIDNEYS HAD SHUT DOWN AND IT WAS PROBABLY BAD FOOD THAT CAUSED IT AND HE HAD A LESS THAN 10 PERCENT CHANCE OF SURVIVAL. AFTER 3 DAYS OF CONSTANT CARE, IV'S BLOOD WORK,ANTIBIOTICS AND $1100 HE HAS SURVIVED AND IS ON HIS WAY TO RECOVERY. ALL OF MY DAUGHTERS WERE DEVASTATED AT HOW SICK HE WAS AND THE THOUGHT OF LOSING HIM.

Sorry to hear that you had to recall Special Kitty. I have a Himalayan Persian who is extremely finicky.....She loved your products...especially duck & wild rice. I hope you can resolve the problem and get back on the shelves...we're having a time to find something she likes...so far it's Iams dry cat food...Thanks..

Iams has a recall list nearly as long as Secial Kitty. Special Kitty has been killing pets for years. Don't look for changes in the near future this company as been making a killing off of the people who purchase their sub-healthy pet foods. Notice the page you posted this comment on. The recall list shown above is only a partical list of all the years of recalls on Special Kitty. This is the recall list for 2007. Special Kitty was listed in the begining of the recalls in March and continues to add more recalled products. Specail Kitty has been responsible for thousands of cat deaths and ilnesses, the reason for Class Action Lawsuits against this product.
This is a very dangerous food to feed a pet you love.

We fed our fussy cat a new food, hoping he would eat it. He likes whitefish but not tuna. I hadn't read anything about canned Special Kitty and figured that by now things would be straightened out. I had a different problem from the others I have seen. The cat did not touch the food. When I went to dump the now dried food, it was full of cat food colored worms swarming through the dish. Is any Special Kitty food good? I bought one other different but small can. Should I toss it, too?

This is a list of this year's recalls. Special Kitty has a very long history of recalls. You are not the first one to report the worms in pet food. The problem with this pet food is the poor quality and the way it is produced not just what "toxins" may be reported. I wouldn't feed this to my cats and risk possible death.

I'm sitting here comforting another precious family cat dying from Special Kitty Cat Killing food. I had to do this for another loved family cat during the big pet kill off. I checked and never found ocean whitefish in cans on any recall list. How can Walmart keep killing our pets. WALMART IS KILLING ANOTHER OF MY CATS AT THIS VERY MOMENT!
I've been trying to find a bag of Special Kitty Soft Food at Walmart Stores.
Is it still stocked? Or has it been contaminated. We have an old cat and don't want anything to happen to him.
He loves Special Kitty bagged moist food and we only have a smidgen left.

The all the history of recalls and the UPC code changes Special Kitty has been doing with their line of products I would be very afraid to feed this product to one of my loved ones.

I lost 2 kittens about 6 months ago, one passed from internal bleeding and the other one just disapeared about a day later. I didnt think anything of it at the time, but we got new kittens shortly after and one passed away a few weeks ago. She also had blood in her runny stool. a day or two afterwards the second kitten ran away. I was thinking that we must have awful luck with cats and totally discouraged. our dogs are healthy and fine (they eat pedigree). My boyfriend bought one more kitten, hoping to change our luck. so far he has been healthy, but i am about to return the food we have been feeding him and switch brands. A coworker told me he has been feeding his cat the dry special kitty (we give ours the wet food) and that one just passed and the other dissapeared. It just seems like too much of a coincidence. Another Co worker has been feeding several stray cats in his neighborhood and recently several have died or disapeared, he thought maybe his neighbors were poisoning them. Now we all think otherwise. Do you have any suggestions? i still have a few vet bills from the first cat, but it was too late for the others. This has been extremely difficult, like losing a part of the family for each of us.

OMG..I AM SOOOOOOO SHOCKED...I WAS ACTUALLY LOOKING NO YAHOO FOR THE WEBSITE FOR SPECIAL KITTY..AND I FOUND ALL OF THIS....I HAVE 9 CATS, AND THEY EAT NOTHIN' BUT SPECIAL KITTY..THEY ARE JUST FINE..BUT NOW IM SCARED..I NOTICED THAT THERE ARE WEIRD CHUNKS OF FOOD IN THE BAG..SOMETIMES THEY LOOK SIMILAR TO DOG FOOD, AND SOMETIMES LIKE DORN CHIPS..NO MORE SPECIAL KITTY 4 ME
I have ALWAYS used Special Kitty cat food & I have found (much to the chargen of my cat Cali) that since the recall I haven't been able to find the moist cat food that you "use to" be able to get at least 3 different ways( in a recealible jug/jar, in a box with(6) individual pkg., & also in the bags like the hard cat food.) I have found the canned moist cat food, the dry cat food, & the moist cat treats bit my problem iis the fact that the moist cat food ( that I can no longer find ) has always been ALL of my cats fave. So if there's a way/place to still get this product I'd be verry happy!!!!!!!!!!!
I have had to put down 3 cats within a year's time of coming to live with my brother. My Niece has always been in chargeof the dry food and she always came home with a 20lb bag of SPECIAL KITTY!
The vet listed different reasons for the deaths of each cat. Ranging from kidney failure of my Persian, to Cancer, (that was not detected 2 months prior?), to 'old age'. This article has me scratching my head.......??? And now 2 others are ill with 'cold like' symptoms. Coincidence? Maybe. But after reading this? NO MORE SPECIAL KITTY in THIS house! ME-OW!
Our cat ate Special Kitty dry food exclusively. She became very lethargic and began throwing up. We suspected that the food was making her ill and changed her food. But it was too late. After a visit to the vet, we were told that her kidneys were failing and that sadly there was no way to reverse or repair the damage. We finally had to have her put to sleep in June of 2008. The vet said that it was unusual to see kidney failure in a cat of her age. So senseless and sad.
So , we have been feeding our cats Special Kitty since they started on dry food. We thought they just had hairballs and that was why they were throwing up. But today I went to buy more cat food and a worker was taking Special Kitty off of the shelves. I asked if I could have some and she said that it was recalled!!! Is there something we can do? This is rediculous! So many people have lost their pets and others have spent a lot of money on vet bills! What can we do???

I have been feeding my male cat lincoln dry special kitty gourmet cat food for 2 years, and about 2 months ago he started have urinary problems. He was put on antiboitics for 2 weeks and special food to balance his urine PH due to the fact the doctor thought he had crystals. He has been done with the antibiotics for 3 weeks now and eating his special food and still having blood in is urine and painful urination. I wonder if this could be do to the recall?...
Our cat died Jan 24, 09 at the age of 13 and 1/2, she has been eating special kitty cat food for the past 4 years. I plan on suing!

I originally provided the information on both of my cats (both were throwing up for approximately six weeks prior to the recall) to the Special Kitty "hotline" and was told that someone would be in touch "shortly". It's been over thirty days, no response, so I called it in again. Can anyone tell me if they've received any kind of information from Special Kitty's recall? I did not have the $390.00 to pay the vet to see my cats, and need that money back. Both cats stopped throwing up upon discontinuing the tainted Special Kitty food - so there is no doubt they were ill from the food, and not something else.
Thank you for responding if you've heard how to file for a refund of medical bills.
