Different colours suit different spaces and give the desired effect in that particular room. You can use different shades of the same colour also to do this trick. For instance, to brighten up a room and make it vibrant, you can use bright red and orange. To give depth, and romantic ambience, use darker shades of red, or magenta. To enhance the effect you wish to create, either furnishings or main décor object can be teamed up with small items.

VIBRANT

The living room is the most frequented and is usually used to entertain guests in many homes. You can either decide before furnishing the room as to the kind of look you would want to give it. Otherwise, if you are already settled in, then you can use elements like faux flowers, cushions, wall art, table accessories, and wall art. For a vibrant look, red is and orange are good options. Freshness can be given with flowers and wood gives a warm look. But too much red in a space can be overwhelming. So, cushion covers, flowers on side tables, wall art with red prominent, and table accessories in red will do the trick even if the upholstery is of a uniform staid colour. On the center table, you can place a glass or a crystal vase with fresh flowers in yellow or orange. However, if you feel that the red is still dominant, use flowers in while or pale pink to balance it out.

TRADITIONAL

If you want a traditional yet luxurious look, then go for darker shades or bright colours mixed with gold. Dark wood sofa sets in intricate designs go well with upholstery in a gold and orange mix. You can have an area rug with the same combination – brown with orange. Accessories like hanging brass lamps and urns, cushions in patterns of green, rust, and mustard, tiny brass figurines, and pictures with gold etching serve to accentuate rooms with their colour and detailing. To give relief from the rich look, place plants in vivid green in corners or on side tables. A center table with a marble top and a table runner will stand out and balance out the rich colours in the room.

PERSONAL

While the vibrant and traditional look can be incorporated in most areas of the home, the bedroom can use colours that give a cosy and personal feel. Deep shades of purple, magenta, copper, and burgundy are some shades that can be used here. If you want an electric look, then you can place collectibles in brass, marble, wood, pictures, colourful crystals, Chinese dolls, and lampshades with stones in different colours. You can arrange photos with different frames alternately for colour and visual interest. The bedcovers can be in single hues while the throw pillows can have sequins in different colours to provide contrast. Since these can be periodically changed, you can mix and match them.

RUSTIC

Colours used can be earthy hues like cocolate brown, dull orange, mustard, green, beige, and brick red. They can be used for cushion covers, bamboo blinds, shades, artwork, rugs, and terracotta artifacts. Although the theme running is rustic, elgance can be brought in by having zari work on the borders of cushion covers or zari patterns on the covers. Shades can be in cane with zari borders. If you prefer bamboo or cane mats to rugs, these can also have zari work or Kalamkari prints (type of hand-painted or block-printed cotton textile) on the borders. Curtains and tablecloths can be in contrasting shades of red and orange. Cotton works best here. Huge terracotta urns with indoor plants can be kept next to wood furniture like a study table. If your room is large, you can also have a sizeable urn kept in the center with plants. This will make for an impressive set up, especially in the hall. The kind of plants kept inside can vary with the seasons or the décor style
