Think you know MLB trivia? I’ve put together some sports trivia questions from the world of professional baseball that I think any baseball fan would be interested in.

You may find some of these baseball trivia questions a little easier than some of the others, but I think you will find all of them to be challenging.

Test yourself and see how you do.

Scoring:

12 correct – You hit a grand slam in extra innings to win the game.

9-11 correct – You a home run in the bottom of the ninth to win the game.

6-8 correct – You hit a triple.

4-5 correct – You hit a double.

1-3 correct – You are called out for running the bases backwards.

0 correct – You were hit by a pitch. (And you were the one pitching.)

1. There have only been 16 Triple Crown winners in baseball for hitting in the history of the game. Only two 2 players have won it twice. Name them.

2. Who was the last hitter in major league baseball to win the Triple Crown?

3. Who are the only father/son major league baseball players to homer in the same game?

4. What major league baseball player played in more games than anyone else?

5. Who has the highest career batting average in the history of major league baseball?

6. Which MLB pitcher struck out more batters than anyone else in his career?

7. Who is the career leader in stolen bases?

8. Who recorded one of the all-time single-season low ERA's of 1.12 in 1968 at the age of 32?

9. Who was the last major league pitcher to win 30 games in a season?

10. In the 1968 World Series, who won three games for the Detroit Tigers along with the World Series MVP award? He was also the last pitcher to pitch and win 3 complete games in one World Series.

11. In 1971 the Baltimore Orioles had four 20-game winners on their staff. Can you name them?

12. Willie Mays is known for being one the greatest, if not the greatest all-around player in baseball history. He is also known for making “The Catch” in the 1954 World Series. Who hit that ball?

1. Rogers Hornsby won it in 1922 when he hit .401 with 42 home runs and 152 RBIs. He won again in 1925 hitting .403 with 39 home runs with 143 RBIs. Ted Williams also won it back-to-back when in 1942 he hit .356 with 36 home runs and 137 RBIs. He won again in 1947, hitting 32 home runs, 114 RBI with a batting average of .343

2. Carl Yastrzemski. In 1967 Carl won the Triple Crown and was A.L. MVP when he hit 44 home runs, 121 RBI’s and had a batting average of .326 for the Boston Red Sox.

3. Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. On Sept. 14, 1990 Ken Sr. homered against California and one batter later Jr. homered.

4. Pete Rose played in 3,562 games.

5. Ty Cobb with a career batting average of .366

6. Nolan Ryan 5,714

7. Ricky Henderson with 1,406.

8. Bob Gibson.

9. Denny McLain. In 1968, McLain went 31-6 and helped the Detroit Tigers win the World Series over the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games.

10. Mickey Lolich won three complete games giving up a total of only 5 runs in helping Detroit come back from a 3-1 series deficit to win in seven games.

11. Dave McNally, Mike Cuellar, Jim Palmer, Pat Dobson. McNally went 21-5, Cuellar went 20-9 as did Palmer and Dobson went 20-8.

12. The astonishing, over-the-shoulder running catch by Mays in deep center field at the Polo Grounds was off the bat of Vic Wertz. It prevented two runners from scoring, preserving a tie score that Mays’ team went on to break in the 10th inning for the win.
