Successful people all seem to have certain things in common. They exhibit specific obvious and observable habits, and have similar characteristics, which are less visible but obvious if you look.

This is true for successful athletes, too. It’s really easy (and intellectually dishonest) to write off athletic ability and success as some mythical combination of genetic predisposition, exposure to divinely inspired coaching and sheer, dumb luck. In reality, real success at any level of sports requires an athlete to possess certain personality traits and to exhibit certain habits.

The habits and characteristics they all seem to have in common include:

  • Understanding that success requires constant learning. – In order to continue to improve, even when you’ve reached high performance levels, you must continue to learn and develop. For athletes, this means finding good coaches and learning all you can from them. How to choose a good coach? Well, how about finding the ones who are always learning, just like you!
  • Surrounding themselves with like-minded peers – Many of your friends don’t really care if you fail! This doesn’t mean they want you to fail; many of your friends aren’t athletes, or aren’t serious about succeeding. So…surround yourself with people who understand success and want it; for themselves and for you!
  • Finding the useful in the mundane – Success-minded athletes take note of things that can help them improve, even when they’re doing something mundane and common-place, like conditioning. They ask “what can I learn about myself or others in this situation?” You never know when a small detail might make a huge difference!
  • Doing it NOW! I guarantee that if you wait for the “right time,” it’ll never come! Really, when is the “perfect” time to do homework, or to get in your running workout? One of my favorite questions for athletes (or anyone) about their training is “when would NOW be a good time to get started?” How about now? That’s when winners get it done!
  • Deciding to be the best – Every great action, every great LIFE begins with a decision to be the best at your chosen pursuit. Oddly enough, many of those who choose to be the best in a sport or at a position see that decisiveness “spill over” into other areas of life – to their great benefit!
  • Accepting no excuse as a “good” excuse – Living a “no excuses” kind of life is difficult! That’s why so few people do it, and why so few people enjoy the fruits of such a life. Socrates tells us “the unexamined life is not worth living.” What will you find on examination of your life? A string of excuses, or a life of full commitment, no holds barred efforts and the feeling of success that comes with them?
  • Doing what others won’t – We know why every athlete isn’t training with us. The reason? Because it’s HARD! Committing to the kind of training to which our athletes do requires a certain willingness to go above and beyond. The result? All-Star Sports Academy athletes wind up doing something else others won’t do…making the “All” lists: All-Star, All-Shore, All-State, etc., and earning accolades, championships and scholarships!

What are YOUR habits and characteristics? If they’re not what they should be, it’s not too late to change! All-Star Sports Academy will help you find the right path to success in sports…and life!

You are capable of great things! The amazing part is that so much of your success path has been clearly laid out by others who have succeeded in your chosen arena!
