Spring Love
67Welcoming the first day of spring has been a part of our culture for centuries. On the other hand globalisation has bought Valentine's Day to our doorstep.
13th February is 1st "Falgun" (the 11th month in Bengali calendar and first day of Spring in Bangladesh.)
Phool Phootuk na phootuk, aaj basanto, (Be there flowers in blossoms or not, today is spring), so wrote the Bengali poet Subhash Mukhopadhyaya. The day traditionally celebrates the jubilation of youthfulness and emotional outpourings.
People welcomes the Pahela Falgun with songs, dances, recitations and exchange of greetings and gifts and presentations by the people of all ages. Young Women and man, clads in sarees, panjabis and fatuas in Shades of saffron, yellow, orange and red, ...roams blithely in the open from dawn to dusk.

I celebrate the color, flowers, sky of the spring...and of-course love.
In my art, specially art about love and passion, their is an influence of Bangladeshi spring.

Beautiful rabi khan,very beautiful!
Thank you Ralph.
Thanx Froggy.
I love your paintings and I love your evocation of basant bahar. I know South Asia and I've been to Bangladesh many times - mainly to Dhaka but also the Sunderband, Chatgam, Cox's Bazaar, Comilla and other places. It is a beautiful, beautiful country and the people have the souls of artists. The poems and songs of Bengal are famous of course and so are the paintings. You add a wonderful new dimension to them which is truly delightful and full of feeling.
Have you ever come across the late Pakistani artist Laila Shahzada? I get flashes of her series of pantings, Driftwood, in some of your paintings. But the images are truly universal. Thank you for posting them.
Thank you RapidWriter for being soul mate of Bangladesh and its people...Yes I am proud of its people, poetry, art and its cultural history...
But I am not sure what I have added ...lots of art lover even does not know my name. No, don't get me wrong...it's not my regrets..nor my wish to be famous...just the fact...I am quit happy that way. Thank you for your kind words.
No, unfortunately I haven't. Surely I like to take a journey through her paintings...
Thank you Rabi-- for a look at a celebration of spring halfway around the world from me. I so much like to hear the how and what of the celebrations of other peoples and know so little about them. Your photos were a "breath of spring" and as always, your art is wonderfully soul satisfying. I love this hub!
Thank You Robie.
I am inspired...hopefully i will be reporting time to time...from this part of the world...at good time or bad time...
Thank you for you great interest in my culture and kind word about my works.
rabi. these are lovely. once again, though I want to go back and finish commenting on your other work. I'd have to apologize as real life has quite the way of interfering at times, plus I've been writing.
Your spring festival is lovely and the beauty of your people and your country seems so joyous and colorful. It seems your entire country, as is, is something of a art form. Your images are outstanding.
I might be visiting Dhaka in april - if you're there, maybe we can meet?
Thank you IIðun.
Me too very busy here, with upcoming kite festival... and other family affairs...
I am here, writing hubs... only because of you...and I am enjoying here greatly, Thank you.
That would be great..Rapid writer.
in 14th April would be Pohela Boishakh-Bengali New year...another day of celebration and festivity... Sure..I am looking forward to that... I enjoying every moment here...not going back to Toronto soon.
Sorry Iðunn for misspelling.
Thank you Rapid Writer for inform me about Artist Laila Shazada,
I googled artist Laila Shahzada and found http://www.lailashahzada.com/
WOW! Great Artist...How come I didn't know her name?
Any way I agree with you there is a bit similarity in style...despite the different media.
rabi if you would like to email me an image each to use with my 4 words Valentine's unpoems, words one, two and three (so far), I would be delighted to attach them and credit you in the hub and in the tags.
if you wish to do so, tell me which is for which in email and I'd strongly prefer YOU select them. if you don't wish to, no worries mate.
That is my pleasure my friend..I think you know it..But my Urge will be, please you select... and just let me know... by mail...OK we will both select...but can I do it tomorrow?...I did not sleep yesterday...and now 3.24am...my head is not working...Is that will be OK?
yes, tomorrow is better. I have dinner at a friend's tonight and then Mass, so today is bad for me here too.
certainly we may choose together. I do admit I have a preference for word two (submission).
yes, let us take a look tomorrow as we both have time. it would be my great pleasure to have the opportunity to feature your work again and pair it with some of mine. :)
Good Night.
I'm glad you enjoyed Laila Shazada's work. I knew her well many years ago. And the other two wonderful artists in Pakistan were Guljee and Nagi. But all these are from the 60s and 70s. I'm sure there are many more modern ones now.
Thank you Rapid Writer, I will try to discover them as well...
I was wondering if you will able to visit Bangladesh during Bengali New years day (14th April)...That would be lovely...
I'm loving the crimsons and maroons in these, especially the new untitled and pensive mood. I want to talk about coloured hair first and birds (in your other hub), then come to these one by one after. :)
Hopefully I can really give them the time they deserve tomorrow. Things are finally slowing down here a bit. :)
i wanted to mention that The Church I attend is making a "real feature film" about the people of India called "The Dalites"...they are heavily involved with the people as well...not trying to capitalize on them one bit...they build schools for them...provide food, shelter and clothing, plus build churches too. Here is a link to the site about the movie and it will be a nationwide movie too.http://nottodaythemovie.com/
