Squeaky Green - Clean: An Examination of Green Works Cleaners

I have a confession: I bought the Clorox Green Works Natural All Purpose Cleaner because it was on sale at Stop and Shop and not totally on the basis that it is eco-friendly. Don't get me wrong, I was jazzed about the greener aspects of this cleaner, but it was the super discount sale price of $1.50 that really caught my bargain-loving eye. I am a girl on a budget and get psyched when I can save a few bucks on necessities to use them for fun things like Oreos, hair products, or a really expensive moisturizer.

However, this sweet deal was more than just a means to more Revlon eye shadow, it was a serendipitous foray into the wonderful world of green cleaning products: I can now tell you with pride that I am Green Works convert. Windex, farewell! Lysol, sayonara! Your abrasive chemical formulas are no longer welcome in my arsenal of cleaning products. After all, with the choice of a cleaning line that cleans, is better for the environment, and smells great why would you pick anything else?

The ingredients in the All Natural Cleaner include things like lemon juice, corn-based ethanol, and a coconut based cleaning agent - it is so refreshing that I can not only pronounce all of those things but also recognize them. The color of the liquid is a pale green that happily does not transfer onto other surfaces. Another plus of this product is that unlike some other natural/eco-friendly products, it is in the same price range of competitive, traditional cleaners. This is great because it means my budget can sleep at night knowing it is in range and helping the environment. Oh right, and did I mention that this product smells great? It actually leaves the room it cleaned smelling bright and clean, not disinfected like a hospital.

I must admit that for really, really dirty jobs (I'm talking scum, grime, and other unsavory images) this product line doesn't have the same harsh chemical clout of a Lysol type product. But this effort by Clorox to get cleaning products green is a huge step forward for all of us, and I plan on whole-heartedly supporting it until they work the minor kinks out. For me, eco-friendly products are more important than a product that provides that so-violently-harsh-I-don't-even-have-to-scrub power.

Bottom line: for me, the Clorox Green Works line of eco-friendly cleaning products is worth the coin and effort. So what if I have to put a little more elbow grease than I'm usually do to get a super shiny toilet bowl? Mother Nature has worked overtime for me for as long as I can remember - I'm ready to return the favor.

The whole line of Clorox Green Works products are available at your local supermarket. For more information, visit http://www.greenworkscleaners.com/

Hi,

Great info. I was debating trying out the clorox green products until I found something better, more organic, and is a much stronger cleaner sans the chemicals! Check out my hub Green Products Mean Safer Homes http://hubpages.com/hub/Green-Products-Mean-Safer- But, I have to give kudos to clorox for trying to be green. Hopefully more corporations will catch on.
