In 1932, Ole Kirk Christiansen started a small business in his village of Billund in Denmark.  His small company manufactured stepladders and ironing boards as well as an assortment of wooden toys.  His company adopted its name from the Danish words Leg Godt, which means “play well.”  We know the company as LEGO.

For 75 years this company has been manufacturing a line of toys that have captured the imaginations of millions of children around the world and continue to do so.  LEGO building blocks allow children of all ages to free their imaginations and become the worlds greatest architects. 

I was 5 years old when I recreated the largest building in the world (at the time) in my living room.  The Sears Tower in Chicago (now called the Willis Tower since July, 2009) captured the attention of thousands of kids and adults alike.  Over the next several years I continued to increase my collection of LEGOS and was soon able to recreate the entire Chicago skyline.

LEGOS are much more diversified now days with hundreds of themes for children to recreate.  There are cars and trains and all sorts of moving parts, robots, dinosaurs, and space ships.  In fact, one of the most popular lines of LEGO toys today is the Star Wars LEGO sets. 

Just as George Lucas captured the imaginations of millions of fans, so has LEGO.  With the Star Wars LEGO set, children can imagine their own adventures as a Jedi out to protect and defend the Galactic Republic.  Or they can just pretend to blow up their own creation of the Death Star.
