I am Emil Clemons and I will list a few very good reasons why you may want to consider reading my hub or article. I started on the internet just about ten months ago, looking for the answer to the same question posed, How To Start a Home Based Business On The Internet?
Starting a home based business on the internet is very easy in my own opinion because I have personally started several.
I have too many home based businesses on the internet to list them all, but one thing is true; You must know how to market your business.
On this hub you may find some of my advice valuable and some of it you may already know or have been exposed to.
If you want to start a home based business on the internet, you must first decide whether or not you want to create your very own niche, purchase a franchise or own an affiliate website that you must promote yourself.
Affiliate website programs are the least expensive start up businesses on the internet because most of them come with a cookie-cutter website, email follow up, back end office, and some phone or web based support.
To start a home based business on the internet, you must first know YOUR SELF. Do you know your strengths, weakenesses, opportunities and threats. This is commonly referred to as S.W.O.T.
To start a home based business on the internet, you need to know your strengths. Consider the following:
Do you have some craft, skill, or talent that you are gifted with?
Are you good with computers, the internet, and website design?
Are knowledgeable on various subjects, so you can lead or teach others?
Do you have good writing skills, to write or publish your own articles or books?
Do you have a large data base of contacts and connections?
Do you have large sums of money to outlay for a business start up?
Do you know how to get funding for your business start up?
To start a home based business on the internet you need to know your weaknesses. Consider the following:
Do you get easily discouraged after several failed attempts?
Do you have poor money management skills?
Do you have limited knowledge or education?
Are you self motivated?
Do you have problems managing your time?
Are you afraid of commitment?
Are you indecisive?
Do you have limited funds?
To start a home based business on the internet you need to know your opportunities. Consider the following:
You have other successes, you have already achieved.
You have had encounters with other successful professionals.
You have friends who are internet and marketing savvy.
You have worked in I.T. or internet marketing.
You are a webmaster, who loves building websites.
You are already wealthy and money is not an object.
You have wealthy friends or family members.
To start a home based business on the internet you need to know your threats (These are outside threats you cannot control). Consider the following:
Negative people in your inner circle, discouraging you.
Business competitors, your product market, local, state, and national economy.
Know your local, state or foreign policies for conducting business where you live.
Make sure you protect your business and yourself by incorporating.
You should also patent your products or inventions and even ideas, that's correct your idea can even be patented.
If you write original letters, books, or material and you want to protect them, you should have them copywritten.
What are some of the advantages of starting a home based business on the internet?
You can work as much or as little as you like.
Some home based businesses on the internet make money around the clock or on autopilot.
The income potential is virtually unlimited.
You can buy stuff for your business and use them as a tax write off (my favorite).
Traveling and meeting really cool people or other affiliates or network marketers.
Not having the long commute to and from work.
Being the Boss.
Waking up and going to work in pajamas.
Going back to bed after a couple of hours of work.
What are some of the disadvantages of starting a home based business on the internet?
You may lose some or all of your investment.
You may lose some very precious time from family or friends (your social life may suffer).
Your business may fail.
I could go on but I think I will stop here so as not to discourage you. Ask yourself this question, Do I have what it takes to succeed?
Why do some succeed and most fail? Let me answer that, It is Sheer Determination. Some people will do whatever it takes to succeed and win. They are not going to give up, no matter how many times they fail!
You see, to understand Winning, you must first understand Losing. To understand Success you must first experience the pain of Failure.
Which would you prefer, to be an overnight success and then lose everything or experience failure after failure and then become Successful?
To start a home based business on the internet is really quite easy but to make it work is a little more difficult.
What is your mind set? Are you a skeptic? Are you scenical? Are you negative about all businesses on the internet?
This is what I have heard, "All home based businesses on the internet are SCAMS".
Fortunately, this is not true but to drive my point home, people who feel like this will not succeed in any type of business.
I know too many people who have succeeded in starting a home based business on the internet, including myself.
How to start a home based business on the internet and actually succeed?
Colleges and Universities are filled with students (myself included) who paid $60,000 - $100,000 for a 4-5 year Degree and started out making a $25,000 to $30,000 per year trying to climb up the corporate ladder of SUCCESS!
You must have KNOWLEDGE if you have nothing else or you must be willing to ACQUIRE IT. There are several examples of people who had nothing and started a home based business on the internet and became very Successful.
Knowledge is key and don't give it away for free. Everyone who has had made their fortunes on the internet have always sold their knowledge for a profit.
So buy their books, study their methods and learn their systems. Find out what works and what doesn't.
Some of these books or systems you will purchase will be absolutely crap not worth the paper written on and some will be amazingly well written and useful.
So, don't complain if you lose a few measily dollars, it will be well worth it in the end.
Let me just say one thing, regarding all of the trash I have personally read about Hubpages being a SCAM and people not making money on Hubpages.
If you know what you are doing and I personally do, Hubpages will give you incredible EXPOSURE to your website. Now what you do with that EXPOSURE is up to you.
Using Hubpages, I have had over 3000 visitors, read and view my hubs and websites.
I absolutely hate doing this, but I will, my first month on Hubpages I made $50.00 from Google Adsense and $250.00 from my affiliate websites, for a total of $300.00.
So can you make money on Hubpages? Absolutely! Do I think you will get rich, that is entirely up to you.

No need to pass out flyers or door hangers
No need to bug your co-worker on lunch breaks
No need to send out post cards to opportunity seekers
No mailing lists necessary

Is this a mlm? Yes, and it's also networking. In my inner circle, the people that know me, like me and trust me will sign up faster than a new acquaintance.

The point I think you make so succinctly in this article is about your Knowledge, don't give it away for free. Far too often, we tend to use the web as a forum to tell the world how smart we are to achieve some form of self gratification, rather than thinking about how could you turn that knowledge to money.
So I agree with you whole-heartedly that those who have made money from the net, have found ways to monetise knowledge.
Which when you think about it, seems to make sense if we accept that we aer moving to a knowledge economy, albeit with a few financial gliches at the moment.

There is a free resource for knowledge which most people do not take advantage of it's called the Public Library.
Most people would rather go out and buy from Barnes and Nobles their books or novels and then read it in the comforts of their own home. Because of this mentality Book Stores and publishers will enjoy massive wealth for years to come.

This is a good opportunity but 95% of the people fail because they do not consistently work at their business or apply simple instructions.
The other 5% WILL succeed due to core values and work ethics and If you have these YOU will succeed and if you succeed so will YOUR BUSINESS!
Actually I know a number of internet marketers who give their knowledge away for free - why not - most people won't act anyways! There is nothing particularly secrete or difficult about making money online but unfortunagely most people think they have to sell to other wouldbe marketers to make money - which just isn't so
