10 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Starting a Home Party Business

Are you considering joining a home party business? This is a great idea. The home party businesses industry is booming. However, there are some questions you should ask yourself as well as some things to think about before making the decision as to which opportunity you should choose.

  1. How many parties per month are you required to host? Different home party companies have different requirements. Some require 5-6 parties per month, some only require 1 or 2 and some recommend home parties but do not require you to do them. This is important because what will you do if you get sick and cannot do any parties for a few months? Some home party business companies, will not pay you your commissions if you skip doing parties for even one month. Is this really the kind of business you want? Also some companies offer more flexibility with your parties than others?
  2. Do you want an actual home party company with a home party plan who advertises as such? Or a more network marketing oriented company? The main differences include the residual income potential, the pay plan and the requirements to stay active. Many network-marketing companies have a low monthly auto-ship requirement instead of the requirement that you do parties every month.
  3. What products do you want to sell? When choosing a home party business, you must love the products. They must want to buy them even if you were not selling them and they must also be profitable and ideally recession proof. Not all products offered via home parties are created equal.
  4. How many other people in your area are hosting parties and selling similar products? Although saturation of one particular company is virtually impossible, it is still important that you look into who your competition is since the more you have the harder it will be to succeed.
  5. How much home party training is available to help you get started successfully? Will you be given adequate training and resources on how to host your first party and successful home parties? If you receive solid training, then you will be more likely to be successful.
  6. Are the products consumable? There are many successful home party businesses who offer products that are not really in this category but you will be more successful if the products are used up and repurchased by the same customers.
  7. Does the overall business fit in with your values and lifestyle? Certain companies are more family and children friendly than others.  Some companies are also more flexible and offer a wider variety of options.
  8. Are parties the only way to really make any money with the opportunity you are considering? With some opportunities, you really have to do parties in order to succeed. With others you can also do shows, fundraisers and online among other methods and still be just as successful and profitable.
  9. How much inventory will you need to host a successful home party? With all companies you will need some inventory, but certain ones will require more than others and if you have limited space available then the requirement for too much inventory could be a problem.
  10. How long has a certain home party business been around? If it is too new then the company may not be hear long-term and if it is too old then there may already be a large number of consultants offering parties which may make succeeding more difficult.
