Many first time publishers wrongly think that once they've created a few articles, and a couple posts, traffic will come busting through the door. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. You have to market your articles. You will not receive any traffic if nobody knows about them.

In the development of gaining loyal readers, you need to write and present your work in a certain style. There are many great templates out there and you should not overlook taking advantage of them.

Many visitors have been disabled by dull or unimaginative design or by bold and extreme colours. You've also got to make navigation easy. Your goal is to create a unique article that is simple (and obvious) and that also allows navigation from one department to the next.

You should also make it easy for readers to contact you. It should never take a reader more than a click to contact you. This makes the reader feel that they are dealing with a real person who actually cares and can help to meet their needs personally.

Your articles amount of traffic and popularity has everything to do with its contents and how often you post. If you only look at the contents once a month, do not expect to get a lot of traffic. The more you post, the more traffic. Those who post daily (or multiple times per day) will get more visitors than once a week posters. But the key here is consistency. If you plan to publish every day, stick to it. Your movement will suffer if you fail to introduce new information over a long period.

Use www.technorati.com or one of the many other ranking blog search engines to drive traffic to your articles. These services make it much easier for people to find your published work. To maximize technorati.com movement, place a link on your site in a visible place that people can click on to your blog as one of their favourites.. Articles with the highest ranking get the most traffic.

Although there are no guarantees that your articles will lead to mass movement, using the tactics described above gives you the best chance of that happening.

Great pointers! The "Build it and they will come" mentality is a Field of Dreams.

You're right -- consistently publishing new material helps build a fan base. Thanks for the inspiration.
