Lately I've been thinking a lot about what's been working for me online and what hasn't. There are literally hundreds of approaches to making money online and I've been working hard for a few years now.

One of the smartest things I ever did was when I decided that starting a blog would be worthwhile. I decided that I could make a solid site, in fact I firmly believed that I could create a site that covered the niche much better than everyone else. I worked really hard for about a year and that's when my blog really started to take off.

Since I have created a blog that worked out really well, I thought that I could pass on some healthy advice that would probably help out a lot of people. This lesson will teach you how to start a blog for profit. I don't really think that you need such an article if you're starting a blog for fun.

Choosing A Topic

If you want to do well blogging you'll want to make sure that you choose a topic that's profitable. The easiest way to do this is to choose a topic that someone else is using - someone else who is making a profit. You might think that you need to think of something that's totally original. This couldn't be further from the truth in fact i decided to blog about the exact same thing that thousands of other people were blogging about. I knew that I could make a profit because other people were already doing it.

The most important thing when it comes to choosing a topic for a blog is that you feel excited about it. If I wasn't super exicted each day about my topic I never could have established a great blog.

Keep those two things in mind - you want to create a blog around a topic that:

  • someone is already successful at
  • you feel excitement towards

Where To Set Up Your Blog

There are tons of options for where you can set up your blog. I would highly recommend buying your own domain and setting up a blog on WordPress. Get your own hosting account. This will make it so that you can do whatever you want with your domain. You don't want to get stuck and a good way to get stuck is by using Blogger, or something similar. If you ever did decide to get your own domain and you were on Blogger it would cost you all of your search engine traffic for a few months.

How Often To Post

If you're just starting out, you really need to post at least every day. If you don't, you won't grow as quickly as you would like to grow. I personally posted once or twice a day for a year and by then my blog had really caught on. You are going to need to do the same if you want your site to be one of the best. If you want your site to make the most money, it will have to be one of the best around.

Since I was starting a blog for profit, I wanted to make sure to get a ton of traffic. That meant providing solid information over time, and continuing to do so. My blog then started to get a ton of search traffic and that really helped me when the time came to make money.

Making Money With Your Blog

Start with Google Adsense and then move toward other methods like affiliate marketing. After you get good at that you can create your own products if you want to. You really need to do each step as you go - it's hard to do everything at once.
