Long distance driving is very tiring and it can be made even worse if you are tired before you even set out for your journey. If you are driving long distance and you are tired then this is a dangerous combination. So just how do you stay awake while driving. This hub has a few tips for you.

First off if you know you are going on a long trip then make sure you get a good night's sleep the night before. If possible you should be driving when you are at your most alert.

For every 2 hours that you have been driving you should get out for 10 minutes or so and have a good stretch and a bit of a walk.

If there is another driver in the car then you should share the driving.

Driving on an empty stomach is not good. Have regular snacks.

Some medication can make your drowsy so these should be avoided if you are going to be driving for long periods. Read the label on your medicine bottle.

One key to safe driving is being able to recognize the signs of drowsiness. I am sure you know them but the main sings of drowsiness are you keep yawning, your head nods, your mind wanders, you feel eyestrain, or your eyes want to close or have trouble staying focused. If you are experiencing any of these then you need to pull over.

If you are sleepy then pull into a safe area and take a nap if you're sleepy. It is amazing how much more awake you will feel after a 20 minute nap.
