Today's communication technology allows us to stay connected with our friends and family from all over the world. Such technology is globalizing the world's communities at an amazing rate. As we continue through this information age, laptops, cell phones and internet devices will become more widespread and affordable to a larger percentage of the world's people.

The birth of the internet and the World Wide Web sparked a revolution in communication technology. It allows people from all corners of Earth to see, speak and interact with each other. Nearly one and a half billion people use the internet for email, business, online gaming, blogging, online education, remote access to security systems, file sharing, media streaming, social organization and many other reasons. The possibilities for communicating via the internet are virtually endless.

As wireless internet becomes more popular, so will laptops. These portable computers make communicating easier. You can use them to write email and connect to the internet away from your desktop. Wi-Fi is becoming a standard feature in most modernized locations like airports, cafes, hotels, libraries, schools and businesses. Generally speaking, PC laptops are great for gaming while Apple laptops are built for music, photography, video and business applications.

Cell phone technology is combining the best elements of the communication world into a handheld mobile phone. The iPhone, for example, has full internet browsing capabilities, a hard drive for storing and playing high quality movies, music and photos. It also has a satellite-based GPS system and full telephone capabilities. It is a perfect example of one company creating the new standard in telecommunication technology. It is estimated that three and a half billion people use mobile phone technology. Nokia cell phones make up 40% of these users, with Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and LG following.
