Below are steps on taking good care of your bird.

In my case I take care of two green cheeked conures, I just recently got them.I also take care of three doves.

Step 1. Make sure before buying your bird you have the cage and supplies ready. This includes: toys(if your bird is a playful type, such as finches, parrots, cockateils, parakeets.) bird seed, paper towels or newspaper on the floor in the cage, bird vitamins, and of course water. make sure that the cage is in an area where it will get light and some sun. Once you have done that you are ready for step 2.

Step 2. Once you've brought the bird home talk to it sweetly and put it in the cage while talking to it. Close the door and step back 4 feet. Sit down quietly and do not move. Stay there for half an hour to make sure everything goes smoothly and make sure they are not in shock. Note: Some might be completely scared others will make themselves right at home. If yours is completely scared arrange it the way they had it at the pet store. this will make them feel a little more at home.

Step 3. Keep your bird(s) in the cage for about three weeks. This will make them custom to their surroundings. This also helps when you let them fly, letting them see sturdy and not sturdy objects to land on.

step 4. Time to let them fly.let them fly 20 minutes to an hour. But, before doing so make sure all screen doors are closed and no open windows. Remember to turn off all ceiling fans during fly time. Take one bird out of the cage. Hold it gently by putting one hand on the bottom as a floor and the other around one of the wings. Slowly take your hand away from the wing. They might stay there or might fly. If they stay on your hand talk to them sweetly (flatter them if you don't know what to say).

Step 5. Clean there cage once a day. That means cleaning the floor both dishes and the toys. Soak the dishes in warm water to get rid of filth. Clean their toys by soaking or if plastic warm water and getting a wet papertowel and scrubbing the dirt off. Trust me, the toys will get dirty ,but your bird has alot of fun with them.

Step 6. Put the bird cage outside in the yard or balcony once every three days. This keeps them happy and takijng a look outside. Caution: Make sure your bird can not get out of its' cage. I got lucky with mine. She escaped, and flew off to someones fence. Talked to her sweetly and grabbed her. It was extremly tense.

Step 7. Bath time! Get a dish and fill it with warm water. Mind you, not to hot. Put the bowl in the center of the cage. They'll see it being curious and all, before ya know it, there in.

So make sure you do all of those steps to keep your birdie healthy.

This is a great article. I am a new hubber, and I wrote my first hub about bird care today. I really care about birds too, and I hope you check out my site. How do I become your fan, by the way?
