Still alive and kicking
63icons remain!
As I close in rapidly on the big 5-0, I couldn't help but being saddened by all of the great American icons whom have passed away in my life time.
I've laughed at Groucho Marx, Johnny Carson, Charlie Chaplin and George Carlin.
I have sang along with Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby and John Denver.
I have been touched by the gentle kindness of Mr Rogers, Captain Kangaroo, Jimmy Stewart and Mother Theresa.
I have been inspired by John F Kennedy, Martain Luther King,Omar Bradley and Ronald Reagan.
I have been entertained by Bob Hope, George Burns, Dinah Shore and John Wayne.
I have cheered for Ted Williams, Wilt Chamberlain, Steve Prefontaine, and Dale Earnhardt.
Where have all the heroes gone? Have they all passed away? I was joyously suprised to find we still have some national treasures still among us!
Art Linkletter, T,V host of "kids say the darndest things, is alive and well at the age of 97! Although Art had a minor stroke in 2008, He is doing well.. He was married to the same woman some 70+ years! Right on , Art!
Fitness guru, Jack Lalanne, at 94, not only practices what he preaches, diet wise, He still works out several hours a day! You go Jack!
Classic actor Karl Malden, from "Streets of San Francisco" and the movie "Patton", not to mention his American Express commercials, is doing just fine thank you, at age 97!Way to be, Karl!
Rev.Billy Graham, who has inspired millions, from presidents to common men, is still doing the Lord's work, at the age of 90. God Bless you, Rev. Graham!

And , finally. legendary UCLA basketball coach, John Wooden, the greatest basketball coach of all time, sounds just as contemporary and profound today, when being interviewed at...99 years old! Nice play, Coach!
Thank You! What a gift you all are, and how much your not only quantity, but quality of years, as given all of us!

Paul Harvey is still alive? I used to listen to him every morning as a kid, not that I wanted to, but it wasn't my choice, but thinking of his voice brings back alot of memories. Good hub, Mike. You old goat.

mayeb the good ones go early? speaking one such u may have overlooked is Harvey Korman
The big 50 huh? I remember it well...or at least I think I do. They (don't remember who they are) say the memory is the first to go. Hell, who needs it, some things are best forgotten. Losing hair?...you know bald is the new sexy, or so I've been told...don't worry baby, the best is yet to come...As one door closes another opens, at least that's what 'they' told me when I lost my job...and guess what....THEY...were right.
Love...the Crazy Old Lady
From your sister: Great and positive take. Remember how old 40 seemed - and now 40 seems young? Enjoy 50 because when you reach 60, 50 will seem young. When I was in my twenties I heard it this way: First the baseball players start looking like "kids", then your kids' teachers look "too young" and finally, the policeman who is giving you a ticket looks like just a kid. Now I am getting worried because at some point will Judges look like kids to me too?
paul harvey passed tonight.
I saw that! Shit, Ihope i DIDN'T JINX HIM! tHIS ARTICLE MAY SOON BECOME IRRELEVANT!
Hot dang, I feel really old. You just turned 50? I hit 51 this past June. Don't feel as young as before. So what is age?
There's a lotta difference between falling off your horse when you're 17 and gettin up off the ground, brushing off your jeans and climbing back on again to show that onery horse who's boss!...verses....falling off the horse (at 46) who's bolted to the left and you go to the right, when you're riding with an English saddle and land on your head and back, lay there a minute trying to get your bearings, the horse runs off and leaves you while you're yelling "Sport...you come back here!"..then you raise your body off the ground and feel agonizing pain in the back of your head and your lower back, you're dizzy, feel sick, and stiff: and worse, you know you've got to get that horse and get back on again and show him who's boss!!!! And you do it! Stagger to the truck, look around and wonder if you dreamed it all. Then you're stove up for 2 weeks from it!
That's age!
