Be in control of your dog from the very beginning. The best time to start letting them know 'who's the boss', is when they are a puppy. But with patience, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. Be consistent and persistent with your training and tactics until your dog or puppy understands the difference between right and wrong behavior or barking.

Controversial methods that many people have varied success with, are training-clickers, Citronella spray collars, mild electric-shock collars and others. But before you revert to these last-ditch-choices, I advise you strongly to train and exercise your dog regularly.

If you really want to stop barking dogs from driving you and your neighbors nuts, show them lots of love and understanding. If they can see that you love them - They will truly become your best friend.
