Stop Trying to Convert Me Please!

There is a family that is new to my apartments (which I am moving from soon). It is a husband, a wife, 2 boys, and a girl. The oldest kid is about 14. When they were moving here their car caught on fire and then got towed. I gave them a ride to the tow yard so they could get their clothes back, and everything they owned was in the car. I also gave them a few rides to the store to get grocerys. They did not buy much since they have not got jobs yet. Grocky also walked with them to the pawn shop so they could pawn their wedding rings and buy food for the kids. The other night I was standing outside talking to them and organizing a rebellion against the landlord when they asked me if I believed in god. I told them that I did not. They were shocked and started asking me why.

I Explained to them my beliefs and they started preaching to me. They told me they thought I was "a good person, no a great person" but I really needed to find jesus. I tend to let people believe what they want and I dont interfere because it has nothing to do with me personally (until such people blow up building {world trade center etc} or start killing atheists and other "dirty" people). Why does everyone try to convert me to some crazy religion? I find some of the most moral people in the world to be people who dont believe in a deity, so why is there a mass misconception that you can not be moral unless you believe in a god? If you look through history the worst things were caused by people doing "gods will". I can name tons of them but I wont because they are very well known, it would take a long time, and I only have 10 minutes left on this computer.

I also had a guy at the center want to go outside and smoke after we closed. The rule is, after we close if you go outside you stay outside and he would not have been able to get his money. I said you cant go out, just wait 10 more minutes until you get paid and then go. He was like "sir, do you believe in god?" I was like nope I sure dont. He said "I could tell, before you even answered". Well excuse me if not letting you go out to smoke is ungodly. Life is a bitch isnt it? I mean when "a good christian" has to wait 10 minutes to go smoke a cigarette. What is this world coming to?

I would also briefly like to point out that I believe raising your children into a certain relgion is child abuse. I think it may be worse than sexual child abuse in some cases (and it coincides with sexual abuse in some cases). Don't raise your children to be religious. Raise them to think for themselves and to make objective and rational decisions.

On a final note I would just ask the religions of the world to stop killing people and also stop trying to convert me to your religion. If this doesn't stop I will have to actively try to convert you into my lack of religion and I see a future full of war and blood shed (much like you allready have with religions other then yours).

I think it's ridiculous to attempt to convert someone. I am a Christian, but my boyfriend for so long was athiest or agnostic, I get them confused. It was just a subject we never really talked about. I mean sometimes but in more of a Bible versus science discussion, as we are both science minded. A lot happened this past year, and now he is Christian, but that had nothing to do with me, his friends, or family. It was a choice he decided to make on his own, and personally, I think that's the only way to go about it.

The reason he didn't believe in God to begin with was bc his mother tried to force it on him, so he fought back with the decision not to believe.

There's no reason to attempt to convert someone. They will believe what they will for their own reasons.

Nice hub! I can identify myself with it.

I´m agnostic so I don´t know if god really exists or not (and I don´t care less ftm), atheists are sure that god doesn´t exist, period. I hope to have help you Whitney ;)
