Barking dogs can be quite stressful to pet owners, especially if you cannot control it. I have a Border Collie that had a bit of a barking problem. In fact the barking was fairly bad at night, to the point that my neighbours were complaining. On one hand it was quite useful as it would alert me to any dangers and warn off any nasties out there, however I was unable to control it. I needed to find a way to stop barking dogs, before my neighbours made an official complaint.

My dog Sammy was barking at people, when he was alone and even at cars that drove past the house. In general, barking at the slightest noise. No matter if it was at home or on the street. Ever since he was a puppy, I have tried to teach him to bark only when necessary. He also had some bad habits such as chasing other dogs, which always made taking him for a walk a challenge!

It is said that it is better to train dogs when they are young, so thats what I did. First, I tried a low cost option which a friend had told me to try. Basically you get a plastic spray bottle and fill with water. Every time he started to bark excessively I would give him a spray of the bottle. It was only water, but it was enough to stop him from barking. For a short period this did actually stop my dog barking, he found it a little scary to start with, but he soon became used to it and after a while the barking came back. I was starting to get frustrated, was I ever going to find a way to stop barking dogs.

Next I decided to try out a an special type of anti bark dog collar. I had read that these worked very well. I purchased mine off amazon. The collar works by setting off a very high pitched sound every time your dog barks. Dogs have very sensitive hearing and this high pitch ultrasonic sound is uncomfortable for your dog. This in theory would deter and stop barking dogs. In my case this dod not work at all, I though I had a faulty collar, so traded it in for another and again it did not work.

After trying some other methods, I found that the best for me was to train my dog with a structured programme. I found an online course that really worked for me, it has step by step instructions and everything made sense and was easy to follow.
