Stop the Feeling of Fear
64We certainly are seeing many scary headlines in the news. These headlines are nuisance making and filled with fear and anxiety. They are of inconsequential value to us, because all they do is build a culture of fear that can be tapped in any one of us.
Fear is the ruin for all of us. It prevents clear decision making and undermines good health and well-being. You have nothing to fear except fear itself.Stop reading the headlines and stop the fear in your life. Each and every day we are bombarded with fearsome stories, on the radio and television, as well as in the newspapers.Yet we hold on to these, argue about them and take them seriously. Why do they (whoever they are) want us to be afraid?1. When afraid, we react and start arguing amongst ourselves. No peace there, just more misbehavior.2. You become angry and distracted about what your life is really about.3. You become unhappy and take the pharmaceutical drugsthat are advertised everywhere. This makes the drug companies rich instead of us.4. You become unable to make the right decisions - in our lives, our politics, our families. Why do they show so many prescription drug commercials on TV?So we start to think maybe something is really wrong with us.If we think something is wrong, the fear sets in yet again.Once the fear sets in, you start reacting in negative ways - you maybecome cranky, judgmental, and angry. Again, the message is, you are not good enough unless you take these drugs or buy these products. They want you tobe just like everyone else. How do you overcome fear?Stop, just stop. The only way to stop the fear is to disengage. Avoid the news - it doesn’t matter anyway. Gas prices will go wherethey go; you will make your choice and a President will be elected. So what?First let’s be clear. You can learn to mange far not ne cessarily overcome fear. If you want to create change in the world start with yourself. The only reason these news items and commercials grab you is (maybe) because you do not like yourself enough. How can you make your life better? You are worth paying attention to. In fact, it is you thatdeserves the attention, not the news or commercials.1. Start liking yourself, first. If you want the world to be a better place, make it one - in your home, your office, in your life.2. Remember, it all starts with the thoughts. When you read or see something, you think. Then the emotion comes up andgrabs you. From there you take action, maybe anger, maybe something else and then, there is the outcome.3. Make the outcome good for you and yours and ignorewhat does not work in your life.Stop feeling the fear in yourself first.PrintShare it! — Rate it: up down flag this hub

You and me both! It is a waste of time to read the news that encourage fear. I glance from time to time at current events just so I am aware. Appreciate your comment.
You're most welcome.
Whitelighter,
I couldn't agree more. And I love your statement "Start liking yourself, first. If you want the world to be a better place, make it one". So many things we can't change, but we can change ourselves. Thank you. ~ eddie
Thank you Eddie. I wish more people would realize that they cannot change anything outside of themselves.

Hi Joanne,
Right on target. The media preys on fear because it bumps up their ratings. Hey, here's an idea. Keep the tube off! One way that will surely "de-stress" your life.
Remember way back when we were growing up. No such thing as 24 hour news. Do we really need it? Of course not. But sensationalism sells.
Great article - John J.
Thanks John. This fear factor media mode is nothing new, yet has grown to nasty proportions.I just don't watch. I don't even remember watching the 'news' when I was young(er!)
Much appreciation,
Joanne Victoria

The only news on TV is bad news these days, there is never any "good" news that's reported, it's all about fear, hate, murder, disgust and celebrity worship. I for one, don't watch the news anymore, and only read the literary, lifestyles or entertainment sections of the newspapers
