How to Manage Everyday Stress
71How to Manage Everyday Stress
Stress management is not a science. No one can really study stress management because books run the rampart from physicians writing their take on stress management to psychologists giving their views on the subject. Stress management is not a science, that is, it can not be studied however, stress can be managed. The management style is just as varied as the personalities of people that you meet every day. Some one can not tell you how to manage your stress because it is a very personal matter that evolves from the most inner places of your psyche that even you can not surmise. In the event that your stress levels is unmanageable then it is best to seek the help of trained mental health professionals who can set you up with medical help to release more chemicals in your body that will make you feel better. Medicine should not be dispensed without initially having a counseling session to find out if theraphy is the easier fix.
A few years ago, it seemed as if everyone was under "stress." It seemed like the whole world was under stress. Stress was the ultimate go-to when an excuse was needed to miss a day out of work of out of school. The movie Network came out where the news reporter screamed out of his apartment window that "He was not going to take it anymore." If you saw the movie, you wonder why he could not take "it" anymore because the more alcohol he dranked, the louder he got on the set and his TV audience loved his drunken creativity. However, as they say, it was only a movie. Do not try alcohol to relieve stress and do not include it in your stress management program.
In the real world, an alcoholic news anchor would be fired immediately, stress or no stress. Alcohol is a depressant so the one place you do not want to go is to a glass or wine or a bottle of Jack Daniels. You will awake like the TV anchor except you would probably be without a job and really stressed. So remember, no alcohol. Medicine should be prescribed prescribed by a doctor. Oh and by the way, "StressTabs" came into the market during that time and is nothing more than a placebo. It was a product that may still be on the market but can not rudimentallly find the root of your frustrations at yourself or the world around you.
The best way to manage your stress if it is not at the clinical state, meaning that you can get to work and can concentrate on what you are doing without panic attacks or social anxiety; is to get counseling immediately. Confide in a friend or a family member if you need someone to talk to. The most important thing that you can do is to find an interest or an hobby that willl consume your thought processes. Knitting is an excellent hobby, though, associated with the elderly, the younger generation is beginning to take up the craft. Knitting has also attracted the interest of robust men to the chagrin of women looking for a man with a softer side without getting the ones that went over just a little too much to the other side.
Stress management though a personal management endeavor comes with a lot of ways to get around it to get back to the real you or to get back to yourself. Spiritual reawakening is a great stress management tool as well as yoga, pilates or any interest that takes the attention off of the mind and body in a bad way and lightens up pathways to peace, tranquility and good health. That treadmill that Oprah swears by is a good way to run some of the stress off and losing a few pounds along the way. A good jog or walk without an earphone of music but just reacquainting yourself with nature is a great way to relieve stress also. Of course you should bring a friend of your choice. Do not talk to someone who is going to "stress you out" while you are going through your melt down processes. It is perfectly okay to avoid certain people who you do not want to talk to or to break off with them completely if you find that they increase your stress levels just by being in the same room. Chemistry between people can work two ways and you want to surround yourself with people who will pick you up and say good things about you.
If you think that all of these stress management tools are being a little self centered and you think that you just want to get away from yourself for a while, then try helping your fellow man. There are plenty of soup kitchens, thrift stores, Salvation Army Stores and Mission Houses that would like volunteers to help with the work they do for the less fortunate. One woman once said that there is alway someone worse off than you are and she was suffering of great ailments. Her voice sounded cheerful because she really believed that somewhere on this planet where billions of people inhabit the earth, there is at least one person who is doing or feeling worse. This woman got this advice from her mother and her mother advice was helping her get through her pain.
If thinking of someone that may be feeling worse off than you does not help you to relieve stress, then you can easily get on the wave of this company towards change and join a political organization of the party of your choice and see what you can do to help your city or community. The most important part of stress management is to not have it become a notion that you feel obligated to partake of. You should look in the other direction, any direction when you feel that you must manage stress.
Hopefully, one of these suggestions will help you to get back to being the person you were before you thought you had to put a label on how you were feeling as stress management and get on with the business of managing your everyday life, stressless.
