The building amazingly curves at the corner. It creates a very smooth transition into Powell Street and arouses one's imagination. The arched windows are recessed from the exterior wall to create shadow and let people feel the thickness of the masonry wall.
The monolithic concrete tower on the right is a total disaster, trashing the view to the bay first by its enormous size and ugliness, second by making the "spire" of the church at the end of axis (on the left) unnoticable.
The 100% unauthentic plus cheesy oriental-looking pagoda on the right (the left one is a ittle bit less unauthentic) seems to be an all-time favorite for tourists.
This Cathedral has survived the 1906 and1989 earthquakes. The nave has quite an organic expression with a smoothly folding surface. It makes one feel like he is inside the body of a person.
This post-modernism masterpiece was designed Philip Johnson in 1980s. It was crowned by a giant french roof plus 12 face-and-arm-less sculptures. It undulating facade is highly animated by sunlight.
