Selecting An Online University

Considering an online degree? If you are planning to pursue an online degree, selection of a university for the program is an important task. You must choose an educational institution after considering all factors that may affect or concerned to you. The following factors you should consider while selecting a university or a college for an online program.

The university or the college and the program should be accredited: There are many institutions that are providing online courses without being accredited. You should be aware of the fact that there are many fraud institutes also. The program you want to pursue should also be an accredited one. Else, your time and money will go on waste. You should know that the accreditation process guarantees that the educational institution has been reviewed in terms of its academics, recruiting, admissions, faculty, and more. It indicates us that the institution will provide quality education and continuously work to improve its overall effectiveness and student outcomes.

Consider the tuition fee: Before taking admission into an online course, check the tuition fee. Compare the fees with that of two-three other institutes and see which one is less. At the same time you should also see the facilities the university will provide to the online students. The institution should have the required infrastructure for the course.

The University should have qualified instructors: There are many universities that do not have qualified and efficient teachers. You should check that before taking admission into the college or the university. Also, the teachers should be trained for teaching online students. You may face difficulties and you may not get all the knowledge about the course if there are no efficient instructors.

Check whether the university is 100 per cent online or you have to attend some classes in its premises: If you are not able to attend the classes in the university premises, you should not go for that course, that will be wastage of time and money and you will not be able to complete the distant education successfully.

Some universities facilitate financing even for online students: If you want that you need finance, then choose a university which help in financing for the program. See other option for funding for the course.

Check the duration of the course: Some online colleges and universities are not sincere and they may not have proper schedule for the program. The course may get delayed for completion.

Besides, you must see the program you are intending to pursue from the selected university is serving your purpose at the end. Pursuing an online program successfully will demand from you, your patience, self-discipline and self-motivation, as pursuing an online program is different from the direct education in a college or a university. You do not have a classroom and fellow classmates. You have to depend on the internet and the study materials the institute will provide to you. You must take the online education as a challenge to become successful.

Financial Aid For College Education

The cost of education has been drastically been cut down in recent years. Thanks to Federal and other form of financial aids available for college education. The main chunk of financial aid comes from the Federal Government. In the US, there are also other private financial institutions offering educational loans.

Before applying for financial aid, the first thing you must do is to decide where to go for your education. A private college is often the first choice. Decide on a list of private colleges but as a back up option, also decide on a list of community colleges as well. The cost of education in community colleges is low as compared to that of private colleges.

After narrowing down on the short listed colleges, try to get information of these colleges regarding education cost. Education cost may include course fee, stationery cost, housing and lab cost and so on. Having done this you can file for your Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA.

As you file your FAFSA, you may be asked to report income, family assets, savings, family size, number and identity of family members attending college, plus other details. Depending on this information, the amount of financial aid you will receive is decided.

The best and the most efficient way to file the FAFSA application is by visiting the FAFSA Web site, http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. Application on the web is faster and you can make changes even if you made mistakes while filling out the form. This process also has a mechanism to automatically check your application. As such there are less chances of your application being rejected on grounds of missing or contradictory information.

If you are not eligible for Federal financial aid, you need not loose heart. Perhaps you could also consider private loans, perhaps from family members. You need not take the loan in your name, but your parents may do it for you. Moreover, you can always cut down the college costs by cutting your room or board expenses. A part-time employment is also not a bad option. People who have enrolled for degree online often earn working as part time employee. However, you must keep in mind that earning a degree is your main aim.

After getting an idea of how much you are going to get from financial aid and how much you have to bear on your own, you can calculate your budget accordingly. If your budget does not suit the financial cost of the college you want to enroll, you can fall back to other short listed colleges where education cost is comparatively low.

If you still cannot afford a college, you can consider a two-plus-two program. These programs will allow you to get the first two years of a four-year degree program at a community college that has a joint-transfer agreement with a four-year bachelor's degree college.

Another alternative is to enroll for an online education degree. Check out the online colleges, online universities which offer online degree programs. You can also apply for Federal aid, if you are enrolled in a credited online college. More or less, education online is much cheaper than pursuing a college degree the conventional way. So it's not a bad option either.

Tips For Choosing A Career

Choosing a career is probably one of the most important decisions of a lifetime. Whether you are fresh out of school or in college or enrolled in online degree, it is vitally important that you seriously consider your personality and interests before making career decisions.

Choosing a career is a vital decision all of us have to take. Utmost care has to be taken while choosing a career because once you have chosen a career, It is very difficult to take backtrack or take a u-turn. Before you take this one major decision, there are so many things that you have to consider.

Plan your career as early as possible. Planning early, you will be on the right track once you in college. This means to say that you should start planning while you are at the high school. Once you have the right frame of mind, you can pursue a program that will lead you to your desired career path.

Even if you have not decided on the career path you want to take, once at college you will be able to get an idea of what career will suit you. It is here that you get exposed to new people, new avenues, and new opportunities. You can make full use of the college environment as testing ground of your skills and talents and decide accordingly on the career path of your choice. Also try to make contacts as many contacts as possible. You can also make full use of the college counseling center to decide on a career path.

Before deciding for a career, do not look out for jobs. In other words, job opportunities should not influence your decision in choosing a career. It is the line of work on which you must decide and not the job opportunities. If you chose a career, keeping in mind the job avenues, you may end up taking the wrong decision. And when you have realized your folly, it will be too late to reverse the decision. A career is should be completely independent of any company or corporation. Jobs will automatically come to you once you have completed your career course. So you need not worry about jobs while choosing a career.

One important thing you must do before deciding your career is assessing yourself. Perhaps you can take a piece of paper jot down some questions - Who am I already? ; What would I like to be better at than anyone else? ; Is there something in the world that I believe needs to be done? These questions will get you thinking and will allow you to articulate your thoughts. As you write your answers down, you are committing yourself to considering these questions. These questions help to find out more about yourself, your commitment, your confidence level to take on a challenge.

You can also take up career tests that are available at on-campus career centers. You can discuss the result with the counselor and perhaps he/ she will offer you useful tips.

If all these do not suffice, you can also take professional help from outside your college. There are numerous career-counseling centers and better still, you can visit the portals offering career counseling. Here you will find expert career advice and you can also take up career tests.
