Subliminal messages are affirmations used to program your mind at an inner level. The word subliminal actually means anything that is presented to you below your consciousness awareness. There is a misconception among many people that subliminal messages need to be silent or invisible. This is untrue. Only when these things become important or need your attention does your subconscious mind alert you to them!

When you learn a new task you must use all your conscious awareness until the task becomes so habitual that the subconscious mind takes over. Driving a car or even walking are two good examples! Because such tasks become automatic, and thus the responsibility of the subconscious mind, your conscious mind is then able to focus on different things. The subconscious mind is merely a storage system for learned behaviour. Your beliefs, attitudes and thoughts are also stored in the subconscious mind and were once in the domain of the conscious mind.

As you began life and grow older your conscious mind was offered beliefs, usually from parents, teachers and peers, which you either accepted or rejected (we do not accept all beliefs handed down to us and also create some of our own based on life experiences). Once critically analysed by the conscious mind these beliefs were then passed into the subconscious mind for storage and retrieval.

The subconscious mind has no reasoning ability. It does not choose what it believes and what it does not. It is the role of the conscious mind to analyse a belief to determine if it has any validity before it becomes a subconscious automatic program.

Sometimes however, information bypasses the conscious mind and is feed directly to the subconscious mind through the use of subliminal messages! This is not exactly an ideal way to program the mind, or use subliminal messages, unless you have full control over the process!

Marketing gurus have known this for years and used subliminal messages frequently in advertising campaigns. They usually try to connect a positive or strong emotion with a product in order to evoke the same emotion when you see the product and make you beliueve you will experience those emotions if you purchase it!
