Success Motivation
52In the 1980s, motivational speakers sprouted like mushrooms all over the world. They conducted seminars and conventions for a fee. Motivational speakers made a killing on tape recordings, books and manuals of their preaching. These motivation for success things got to me. I attended a seminar that was advertised in the newspaper to be held 250 kilometers away from our city. The ad was so convincing that I did have second thoughts. So, I attended the seminar and it further convinced me! In my desire and eagerness to get registered and become an associate, I made a quick roundtrip home then back in less than 24 hours just to get money for registration.
Everything seemed nice and going smoothly at the start. Many people that I talked to were convinced on the principles of the "Keys to Success"! In less than two months I was able to generate sufficient number of commitments to attend a similar seminar in our city. Everything was a go! Almost everyone who was committed to attend was fired up and eager to learn. Three days prior to the seminar, corporate speaking engagements were also scheduled to drum up more attendance for the seminar. The seminar then went well with a good attendance. But, it was after the seminar that I noticed that the speaker, a foreign national, who showed discontent from what came out of it. He made so many excuses and said that we might not earn from the efforts we did as associates! That almost devastated me. After paying a sizeable sum to be a registered associate along with the time, effort and invested during the seminar campaign, this is what he is going to do?
Carefully, I analyzed the preaching and thoughts he was imparting. Having been in sales and marketing for more than ten years, I did a little math on the probabilities and possibilities of his keys to success. None even came close to plausible! He insisted that anyone could be successful if the steps were taken properly. For the sake of argument, I considered 9 out 10 people to be successful, which he termed as financially independent. If 90 percent of people are that successful then there would be only 10 percent of people available as work force, right? How long will the successful people survive when there is only 1 worker for every 9 of them?
That was the time I got out of his organization because what he was preaching was impossible to happen. Success has its level limits for all individuals. Not all or even maybe 50 percent could be CEOs or company Presidents. At 50 percent success rate, there will be only one worker for each. Maybe even 10 percent of all people to be successful might not even really work because that would mean only 9 employees for each successful person. This is how I would look at it. The best ratio would be 1 top successful person out of a thousand that would have 999 employees. Maybe 9 of them would be second level executives and 90 third level executives. Beneath them would be supervisors and the rank-and-file. A corporate structure like this would be nice if it is not majority owned by a family. Usually, family owned corporations have their immediate relatives always at the top of the corporate ladder. By the way, please note those motivations for success were all aimed at success in wealth and does not consider any other kind of success.
