Tips to Manage a Successful Business

In today's fluctuant business world, it takes a lot of knowledge, skill, creativity, timing, & luck to stay afloat and become profitable. There are many different business strategies out there, and depending on the company, some of these methods may work better than others. However, there are a few strategies that are crucial to implement, and they apply to almost all types of businesses. Let's take a look at a few of these tips that are key to a company's success:
1) Marketing - Marketing is how consumers are made aware of your product and aims to convince people as to why they need it. Without any type of marketing angles, it's almost impossible to increase sales and stay profitable. There is a wide array of things you can do to market nowadays (via television, radio, newspapers, billboards, etc.), but the most effective way seems to be through the internet, a place where millions of people go everyday to search for information. Some of the marketing strategies for the internet include hiring SEO firms, doing press releases, writing articles, using social media (twitter, facebook, digg, etc.) to spread the word, and even using a DIY SEO software, which tends to be quite affordable for small-medium sizes businesses.
2) Customer Reviews - One thing more and more people are starting to do before making any major purchases is to read up on the consumer product reviews and see if the product has any complaints or rave reviews. One thing companies need to focus on is having people who like their products write positive reviews, (especially if there are negative reviews) to help create a positive image. Nothing gives consumers a bigger boost of confidence to buy a product than stellar reviews, and the opposite is just as true. Another way to fight negative reviews is to prevent them from ever happening, usually by fixing problems before they boil over (this usually requires a good customer service department).
3) Appearance - This should be a no-brainer but surprisingly a lot of companies overlook the importance of this one. People tend to buy things that draw their attention and look more appealing than the other options. Take gum packaging, for example, and notice how they are constantly changing and trying to look more flashy than ever. The companies who don't adapt to this trend usually get left in the dust, so be sure to take advantage.
4) Disaster Prevention - Here's an important question for your business: If all of the information stored on the computers your company uses were to be wiped out, would your business still be able to recover with minimal damage, or would this lead to a catastrophic meltdown? For many business, it would mean the end. So how can you prevent such a blow from ever occurring? One idea is to acquire some form of online file storage that saves and stores your information in a remote location, so when the inevitable computer glitches occur, data can easily be recovered. External hard drives are another option but they run the risk of being damaged or lost, especially in the event of a fire, earthquake, or other natural disaster.
5) Motivated Employees - If someone isn't motivated to do something, they probably aren't going to do it, or if they do, it most likely won't be their best effort, which is why employee motivation can be a huge factor to a company's success. Offering some kind of incentives for completing goals or tasks is a great way to achieve maximum performance out of an employee. Even positive encouragement or praise can help. The trick is to test the various forms and see which of them works best.
6) Payment Processing - Another important aspect of running a successful business is having a secure, simple, and reliable online payment processing platform that doesn't create hassle for customers. Paypal is a popular payment gateway due to it's simplicity, although many dislike the % based fees that are incurred when receiving payments. Be sure to make the checkout process simple and painless, and try to accept as many forms of payment as possible.
Of course there are tons of other things you business can do to increase success, but these are some of the more critical ones that deserve the most attention. Feel free to leave any other suggestions in the comment section.

I'm glad you mentioned marketing. In this tough economy, companies are trying to cut costs everywhere, but marketing is essential to keeping your company afloat and helping it grow.
#5 is usually one companies struggle with. I think companies need to give out more cash incentives, such as bonuses for meeting quotas.
