What many sales and marketing people fail to recognize is that persuasion is more than their presentation of the features and benefits of their product or service.
Almost every human encounter involves a level of persuasion. It is a life skill. But, it is important and necessary to be successful in the sales, marketing, advertising, copywriting, negotiation, and media relation professions.
Do You Know What Selling Really Is?
Selling is giving people enough convincing information so they can make a complete and informed decision. Closing a sale is simply bringing the decision process to a logical conclusion. Nothing more.
Each and every day, whether you realize it or not, we use persuasion to sell something. No matter what you are trying to persuade someone of, you are selling.
Just remember that all of life is about selling and there are no exceptions. You must learn to carefully develop your framework for the person who is buying your product or service so they can make a sound and logical conclusion.
Start Developing Your Persuasion Skills
The first process in developing your persuasion skills so you can sell more is to know what your clients want. Now ask yourself:
- Do they need to be made aware that they have a need or to have their need validated?
- Is there a relevant solution?
- Have I answered their questions?
- Is there enough detailed information for them to make a good decision?
- Have I reassured them they are getting what they need and are making the best decision (value)?
- Does my customer need me to give them permission to make the decision right now?
After asking yourself these questions and presenting the relevant information, there really isn’t a secret to selling. You will get the sale every time.
The first step in learning how to persuade and be persuasive in selling is relevancy. Identify those people who have a need and are a good fit for your product or service. Make sure you qualify your prospect. be relevant. them. Don’t waste your time If you can’t qualify someone as being a good fit for your product or service before you start talking to them.
