The Depression Checklist

Am I suffering from depression?? Depression is a mental illness that can strike anyone, regardless of age, gender and social background. It is a condition characeterized by mood swings, lack of energy and outburst of negative emotion. Depression can be caused by many factors and certain individuals are more vulnerable to depression than others. So far, there is no specific cure for this disease yet. Most treatment methods attempt to contain the illness to prevent relapse or to change the perspective of the patient into a positive one. If you are suffering from depression, you can always search for several self-help resources on the net to find out causes, symptoms and treatment for depression.

Now, we will look at the symptoms of depression:

Mental symptoms: negative thoughts about the future, helplessness, having difficult concentrating on the things you are doing. feeling agitated, restlessness, feeling sad, indecisiveness and feeling guilty all of a sudden

Physical symptoms: fatigue, loss of appetite or overeating, weight gain/loss, not enough sleep, suicidal thoughts and lost interest in all the things that you enjoy doing.

It is very important for you to seek out the treatment that works best. Of course, there are a lot of natural products or drugs to treat mild depression but nothing beats getting professional treatment and advice from a psychiatrist or a psychologist. Sometimes, people get depressed because they are lonely and they do not have anyone to talk to. Having a therapy session with a psychiatrist might just be the only cure that you need because the session provides social support via a client-patient relationship. Also, a professional diagnosis would tell you whether all the conditions that you are suffering from are genuinely depression or is it a case of comorbidity (two or more mental diseases at the same time)? Well, for a start, there are various sites online that provide free screening tests for depression. You might want to check out those sites as well.
