Summer Activities in Leavenworth, WA
69Leavenworth summer activities
Leavenworth, 'Washington's Bavarian Village', is a popular destination for tourists and locals in Seattle area as there are plenty of fun summer activities in Leavenworth. It is located in the dramatic hills of central Washington, the city is a popular destination not only for its cuisine, its atmospheric architecture, and the flowers that line streets of shops during the spring and summer, but also the range of outdoor activities available year-round.
The vast natural surroundings of Leavenworth, Plain, and Lake Wenatchee include the Wenatchee National Forest, Alpine Lakes Wilderness, and Glacier Peak Wilderness. For recreationalists, these surroundings provide four seasons of activity and adventure. Here is my favourite list of summer activities in Leavenworth, WA that you may find helpful while planning on a trip.
Summer in Leavenworth
Nutcracker Museum
Nutcracker museum dedicated to instruments used to open the hard shell of a nut. Features images of historical nutcrackers (including wooden soldier nutcrackers from the 1800s), faces on human-looking nutcrackers, and historical material about human consumption of nuts. Also includes material about collecting antique nutcrackers. The Nutcracker Museum features more than 5,000 different kinds of actual nutcrackers, ranging from the well known German Steinbach dolls to wooden figural crackers from Europe. A great summer activity in Leavenworth is to stroll through the world's largest nutcracker museum.
Nordic Walking
A great and healthy summer activity in Leavenworth is "Nordic Walking", a new trend that has seized German-speaking countries. It is an ideal method of training the whole body for both young and old. By using walking sticks to include the entire musculature walkers are able to increase their pulse rate as well as their metabolism. Nordic Walking strengthens the upper torso including shoulders, chest, and other movement related muscles.Correct use of Hiking poles will provide added balance and stability on a walking or hiking surface. It will also increase your endurance by distributing the workload over the bodies entire musculature. You'll find that pole use will significantly reduce the strain on ankles, hips, and knees.
Wildflowers
The Central Washington Native Plant Gallery is a great resource for the flowers that grow in Central Washington and around Leavenworth. From mid-May through April you will find the hills and valleys covered with color making it a beautiful summer activity in Leavenworth. The area is probably best known for its spring floral display in the shrub-steppe, and rightly so, since it is often spectacular. But with an elevation range of 12,000 feet, from the sandy shores of the Columbia River to the perpetual snow of Mt. Adams, with coniferous forests in between, a large variety of plant communities may be found.
Horseback Riding
Enjoy an instructional ride, a pack trip, or an all day ride thorugh beautiful alpine meadows, forested trails and alpine lakes. The scenery is breathtaking during your summer activity in Leavenworth on a horseback. With its vast network of horse trails on public and private lands and horses for hire at stables, ranches and equestrian centers, Washington State is a great destination for people who love to go horseback riding. Whatever riding environment you like best, you’ll find it here: mountains, meadows, desert plains, forests and beaches. So saddle up and get back on that horse and ride.
Paragliding
Ride an updraft. Drift in the breeze. Get a bird’s eye view. Rediscover the true meaning of the phrase “a breath of fresh air.” Maybe you’d like to parasail high above beautiful Lake Chelan to catch an amazing view of deep blue water and Cascade Range peaks; or above Elliot Bay, where you can take in the Olympic Mountains, the Cascade Range, Puget Sound and waterfront Seattle in one breathtaking panorama. Or maybe you’d prefer the lower adrenaline (but still dazzling) experience of gazing down from a hot air balloon at the exquisite expanse of the Methow River valley. However you like to soar, Washington State’s optimal blend of wind, weather and scenic grandeur makes for an uplifting experience.
Miniature Golf
One of Washington's premier 18-hole miniature golf courses will delight everyone from child to adult with it's fairways and greens winding through cascading waterfalls and around Bavarian buildings and a waterwheel. There are incredible German theme buildings and a babbling brook running though a course complete with waterfalls, fountains, and waterwheel, all set into a spectacular setting with outstanding mountain views near the entrance to Tumwater canyon. Greens and fairways wind around ponds, fountains, and cascading waterfalls, and a water wheel.
White Water Rafting
Whitewater river rafting on the Wenatchee river in Leavenworth, is one of the best rafting and a adventurous summer activity in Leavenworth with your friends. Get your group together to come crashing through the huge waves on the sunny Wenatchee River
