Sunscreen Skin Care Products

We're not talking about the Skin Care Products that propose to be anti aging with results in the first 5 minutes you've applied them. Sunscreen isn't a vanity product, it's a health necessity targeting the prevention of skin cancer.

Now that there are so many sunscreen products to choose from such as: types, lifestyles, scents, & numbers, how's a person to know which one is right for their skin?

Most of them are developed with a particular lifestyle in mind such as: baby, sports, teens, anti aging, etc, and you should choose the one you will use because the most important variable, (the SPF #) is found in all sunscreens worth using.

Choosing the right SPF #

SPF (Sun Protection Factor) is the sunscreens ability to screen out the sun's harmful rays. The higher the number, the better it protects your skin.

Even though there are lower numbers of SPF than 15, it is the very minimum that anyone should be using. If you're prone to burning easily or if SPF 15 allows you to burn, switch to a higher number at the first sign 15 isn't working.

The American Academy of Dermatology considers an SPF of 15 to protect from 93% of the sun's rays, while SPF 30, up to 97% protection.

In other words, it doesn't matter if you choose Sports, Baby, Anti Aging, or what ever the type you will wear, it is the SPF # you should be looking at when selecting.

It's also a good idea to choose the product that includes protection of both UVA and UVB rays.

How Does Sunscreen Skin Care Products Work?

Two ways: Some of them absorb the UV (Ultraviolet Rays) and others reflect the UV completely. Either way, preventing the damaging rays from getting to your skin.

There's no reason to not wear sunscreen anymore, now that there are products specifically designed for each person in mind. "Smelly, greasy, stinky", etc are no longer valid excuses. Today's Sunscreen Skin Care Products have come a long way in "user appeal". Most are light lotions or sprays, and come in either unscented, or emit a fragrance that even most men can live with.

Tips For Using Sunscreen Lotion

  •  Don't skimp on the amount. Use a full ounce, (equivilent to a shot glass full) each time you apply or re apply.
  • Apply 15 - 30 minutes before going out doors, and then re apply every 2 hours or right after coming out of the water (even if you're using water resistant sunscreen).
  • Wear sunscreen even when the sun isnt' out. About 80% of UV rays can penetrate clouds.
  • Store sunscreen at room temperature when not being used. The shelf life is the date of expiration or 3 years, which ever comes sooner.

A Final Word About Sunscreen Skin Care Products

The "best sunscreen" isn't necessarily the most expensive. Read the labels. If the product states it is a specific SPF and protects against certain UVs, and cost $10 less than the leading brand, then get it!

While an "anti aging" sunscreen beauty product might boast of making you look younger, in the long run it might do just that since the suns harmful rays will cause wrinkles, and by adding SPF to it's product, it fulfills that promise. It isn't really worth the extra money if SPF is the only factor giving you the younger looking skin. You can get that in the less expensive products with the same SPF#!

A few more things you can consider when reading that label is that some are now "biodegradable sunscreen" for the environment friendly, and then some are hypo allergenic in case your skin is sensitive.
